Weekly Comic Book Discussion 10/17/2008

My brother had been reading the Waid run (in trades) and it was the first Legion stories he ever read. He’s not as excited about the Shooter stuff. I’ve never been heavily into the Legion but I’ve picked it up in more interesting periods.

Since I’ve been called out on it Lone Wolf and Cub vol 8 seemed more like set up for the next portion of the story than real developments. There’s back story, the revelation that the frame up of Ogami wasn’t just a simple power play, and the fact that he’s been making more enemies but it felt more like a deep breath before the plunge. It continues the superb storytelling from the previous volumes along with the stunning art that owes more to 19th century watercolors than 20th century manga. I’m always impressed by how much of the story is silent and just told in the art. My only hang up on this volume is how every single major female character is treated: they’re either there to seduce or be raped.

No. But I have heard that Vril Dox’s gang may have a book again soon.
