Well, the revelation in Flash : Rebirth #2 was certainly interesting!

Yeah; I’m feeling a Speed Force reimaging coming on.
What really struck me this week was… cripes, do they have to shoehorn Hal Jordan into every title? I know Johns has a mad-on for him right now, and yeah Blackest Night is coming up and it looks to be awesome, but… seriously, enough already.
Even though it was already telegraphed as coming up, by the time he popped up in New Krypton I was about ready to toss it across the room in disgust.
… although I’m liking New Krypton.
I haven’t read anything yet, but, I just have to say…Cripes the Hughs cover for Power Girl is awful.
It’s impossible not to get the reference, and I know ‘hey, Peej’s tits!’ is a major part of her character, and, in a technical sense - especially the way her shirt falls, and the texture in her jeans - it’s pretty awesome, but, it…doesn’t work, all put together.
The looks on Peej and the firemen’s faces, specifically, really bug me. I can’t put my finger on why she bugs me, but them, I can - their faces aren’t ‘hey, here comes help’, or even ‘wow, it’s a superhero’ it’s ‘hey, check it out, hot chick!’ which…while a completely valid reaction to Peej under normal circumstances, when she’s about to fly to the rescue, it just…diminishes her.
It doesn’t even feel goofy and fun like many of his Wonder Woman covers, or even the JSA Classified cover he did with her, it just…feels a bit skeezy.
If not for the fact there was the Conner cover to buy instead, I’d have been terribly embarrassed to buy this book. (And I can totally unashamedly buy Heavy Metal - this one somehow feels dirtier, to me, than the barely covered fantasy nudity on any HM I’ve ever bought.) The last cover that I had that reaction to was the first collection of Simone’s Birds of Prey run. (Ironic what books are actually behind the covers that make me feel like that…)
I thought the Hughes variant cover for Power Girl was hilarious and intentionally so.
Like I said, his intent was obvious. His execution was a failure.
I haven’t gotten my comics yet this week, but having seen the Power Girl cover, I’m disturbed that she looks more than a little like Carol Channing.
New Mutants #1 was pretty good.
New Mutants was already pretty much X-force when I started reading originally but through back issues I read a lot of the earlier stuff and this new book captures a lot of their voices quite well.
We’ll just have to disagree on that.
