Here we are, ladies and germs. Light week for me. I got what will be my last issue of Red Sonja; I picked up the second issue of Ion which marginally managed to impress me more than the first; The Spectre’s new limited series gets its start this week.
JLA Classified wraps the current b-plus storyline, and prepares to detail a lost adventure of the Detroit League next week. Ultimate Fantastic Four - what can I say? I like everything but the art.
I picked up two issues of Amazing Spider-Man to catch up on his Civil War doings, and you know what? They managed to convince me that Spidey’s position in the conflict is reasonable for the character.
The Thing continues to rock my socks, with one of the funniest last pages in Marvel Comics history - a shame its next issue will be the last.
Superman/Batman #26 - special tribute issue. It’s… okay. I like the idea of the tribute, I like the story. Some of the art is really bad. Most of it is good, though. And dayumn. Art Adams draw the Titans ladies in a hot tub? Worth the price of admission right there.
Action - the Art seems to have dropped in quality this issue, but we get clarification on the Toyman’s new appearance, so that’s nice.
And of course, 52. Question gets good quality time. Steel’s got some weirdness going on. Booster’s self-absorbed. Dibny gets only a little screentime. Nothing from Black Adam this outing. Biggest coolness? Some of the heroes from the Space Team show.
52 - Nice issue. The stuff with Ralph and Cassie’s odd, but interresting. Booster’s…well, Booster’s pretty Boostery. The RTW gang - I recognise Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Bumblebee and Mal…anyone have any idea who the other two are?
Action - Interresting turn…I’m not sure about the power boost, but I like how Clark’s handling it. I’m also not liking the way he’s treating Jimmy - both as Clark and as Superman.
Ion - Eh…Not bad, but not real good, either.
Spectre - This week’s standout. Aside from the minor timeline glitch with you-know-who, solid, storywise, and very, very good art. Especially the way Spectre is drawn when not blended with Cris. Probably the best art DC is fielding right now.
JLA Classified #21: A ho-hum ending to what was a great story. I did like Batman’s last words.
Action Comics #839: Loving it. Clark as separated from humanity but noble. Lex as arrogant mad scientist. This is great stuff right here.
52 Week Four: Oh dear. I did like Steel in a powersuit. Hope he’s not rendered too unrecognizable. And what is the Question up to?
Superman/Batman #26: This is how I want to remeber Superboy: Horny as all hell. A very touching farewell to fictional and real people alike.
The Spectre #1: It’s mostly a return to the ground Jim Corrigan trode, but that’s okay. It was worth revisiting, Corrigan’s story was over, and there’s enough differences to make it worthwhile. To start with, Cris isn’t angry like Corrigan was. They do need to work on his appearance as the Spectre. The facial hair isn’t working for me.
Ion #2: “Tarted up bounty hunter.” Heh. I’m really liking this series, but its’ moving a bit slow for me.
52 #4: Loved the Question/Montoya interaction. Loved the final page. Tengu, I think that the glowing blob is Firestorm improperly merged with someone (Animal Man?).
I think Wolfian’s got the blob half right. I think it’s Firestorm and Cyborg. (Take a peek at the mostly obscured art underlying the ‘Next in 52’ blurb at the bottom.)
My absolute favorite book was “The Warlord.” It just hit the right note for me. I invester a lot of time and energy getting the entire series and so am pretty emotionally tied to the established story line.
So now DC is relaunching the Warlord. I am intrigued. But it just doesn’t look right. I read a bit they offered on the DC home page and it just didn’t feel right. The fun and adventure didn’t seem to work
It’s written by Bruce Jones, is it not? He hand a legendarily awful run on the Hulk, and is currently fouling up the Nightwing title. Not exactly a strong draw for me.
Ah true, true. Also in the first 1 Year Later issue of Teen Titans someone while looking at the shut-down Cyborg says “Ew! Is that Firestorm?” As our POV is thru Cy we can’t see what the person is looking at.
That would seem to confirm it, then. I have been meaning to go back and look at that ish of Titans and also IC #7 to see if there are any inconsistencies…
