Weekly Comic Book Discussion 9/27/2007

Here 'tis.

The only Marvel book I got this week was a back-issue of Spectacular Spider-Man. (#185, a humorous outing that I somehow missed even though I was collecting Spidey at the time.)

A crapload of DC this time, though.

Dug the Four Horsemen mini, with the unexpected cameo; Justice League is just so good now… I enjoyed Countdown, but tie-in Countdown to Adventure was even better.

Let’s see. Brit #2, Blue Beetle, Doctor 13 Graphic Novel, Iron Man: Hypervelocity graphic novel, Astro City Dark Age vol 2 #4 (Finally! Woo… and what a twist at the end!)
Is that date the Honor Guard has to wait for, significant in RL in regards to comics? I think it’s a year earlier than Crisis.
Missed Legion.

Did not get Akiko Graphic Novel, budget issues. Next time.

Oh! And Astounding Wolf-Man #3

Forgot to get Blue Beetle! :smack:

Wonder Woman Annual - Yeah, that whole storyline was pretty much a mess – having her entire rogues’ gallery show up made no time for any of 'em. Personally, I’d’ve been more interested in a Donna-as-WW series. Eh.

Countdown #31 - Not bad, but not great either. Art wasn’t bad (for a change). The Kyle v. Jason thing is still annoying, the Catwoman storyline is still uninteresting, the Black Mary storyline poorly written, and Karate Kid’s costume is still being drawn different from issue to issue.

Countdown to Adventure #2 - Now this was nice. Interesting intro to the storylines, and nice pick-up from the space adventure from 52. Although the Forerunner bit kinda fell flat.

Supergirl and the LSH #34 - Acceptable, not fantastic. Kinda wish the art were a bit better. And am surprised they’re not focusing on Supergirl more, since I suspect she’ll be gone soon…

Teen Titans #51 - Hopin’ this is a good storyline. Although Kara getting entangled up by vines from Druid King? Um, yeah… Nice that Robin out-batmans future-Time-Batman.

The ending of Wonder Woman reveals the writer has no idea who the hell Wonder Woman is. Wonder Woman can’t bleed? Since when? She doesn’t lie, either.

Damnit, Gail, read some Perez, and do us proud.

The nice thing about the WW Annual, I thought, was the backup origin pieces. Nice to see Nemesis’ origin recapped, and the “official, for now” Donna Troy origin.
