52 Week 19: Lobo has the Emerald Eye? That’s… Ominous.
Aquaman Sword of Atlantis #44: He’s right there on the cover, but when Ocean Master showed up, it was a cool and surprising moment.
**Green Lantern Corps #4: **The Gardner stuff is a lot of fun, but the Thannagar plot is kind of hackneyed.
**
Martian Manhunter #2: **Getting better, but still really, really dark. I mean, I accept that J’onn’s not Superman, but he’s not Batman either.
Green Lantern #3: Oh, so that’s Prime duty. Yeah, that seems like it would suck.Big old 52 teaser dropped here.
Yeah, I almost dropped Martian Manhunter after the first issue, but I decided to stick it out a while - definitely felt better about Issue #2.
I like GL Corps, even the Thanagarian plot. It’s got a ‘slice of life’/Hill Street Blues feel, kinda.
Green Lantern - Geoff Johns finishes erasing the indignities perpetrated on the GL Corps. Awesome. And the 52 tease is nice to see.
Picked up Ms. Marvel this week, which is a Civil War tie-in, because it has the Shroud. Who isn’t in nearly enough comics. I also picked up the Civil War ‘Files’ book - which is written from Stark’s perspective, and firmly establishes some continuity items I would’ve thought they would ignore, and gives me just a tiny grain of hope that Marvel won’t ruin Reed richards with this thing.
In other news, Newsarama last week announced a one-shot called ‘Civl War : Choosing Sides.’ It will contain five stories about characters and their reactions to Civil War. Iron Fist, Venom, (the new) Ant-Man, and US Agent all feature. But most importantly, the fifth story is “Civil War : I’m With Howard.” That’s right - Howard the Duck, trapped in a Civil War he never made.
I was expecting a twist with him, that didn’t happen. I don’t know if I’m disappointed, or not.
52 - Emerald Eye of Ekron…Mmmm. I don’t think he’s weilding it…just carrying it. It would be strange for Lobo, while joined with the Eye, to give up all his base pleasures, rather than REALLY indulging. I think he’s working for the Empress. Also, I’m surprised at the lack of speculation about why Star’s wearing Buddy’s shirt.
Can someone explain how SuperNova could be who WonderGirl thinks it is? How do the powers match up? How would any of that work anyway?
[spoiler]Did Kon-El know Booster at all? Well enough to yell at him that personally? Since when did he have “warp” powers? Why in the heck would he just be flying around Metropolis instead of, like, just being who he was openly? The best I can think of is that SuperNova is some sort of extra clone from Luthor’s experiments.
Or… or he’s Luthor or some clone of himself. Trying his hand at being an enhanced hero just like his “team?” That would explain why Cassie finds him familiar to Kon-El, though not why he doesn’t recognize her…[spoiler]
Crap. Spoilers unclosed. Please help fix by reporting to a mod!
Because she’s in heat, and the only thing sexier than a nude woman is a woman wearing your shirt.
Or else because Lobo ripped her top off last issue, and she didn’t exactly pack a sewing kit. And DC isn’t going to let her walk around topless without Austin Powers style censorship. Damn them.
Self-delusion factor is pretty high in the girl, that’s how.
Could be that Wonder Girl picked up on some of Supernova’s mannerisms or vocal inflections and… well, as Bosda said, self-delusion probably played a part.
BTW, who were the pallbearers? The only ones that I recognized were Beefeater and the Blimp.
Does anyone recall if Lobo was still around in L.E.G.I.O.N. during the Emerald Eye storyline?
Also, I’m alarmed that the 52 reference on the last page of Green Lantern might mean that the 52 storyline won’t actually be resolved by the end of 52 (since it’s now just turning up in the One Year Later titles, apparently).
Lightray:
Yes, he was. There was a scene in which Garryn Bek uses the item in question to zap Lobo almost to death, until Vril Dox stops him.
There was a 52 reference in Supergirl and the Legion. Which means that it’ll be over a thousand years until it’s over.
But I think 52 will wrap out its own story, while leaving the door open for further stories touching on… Whatever’s at the heart of the problems with time, the disasters in space, etc.
Sources indicate that the others are Yellow Peri, ‘Honest Abe’, Odd Man, and … Mind-Grabber Kid.
Abe’s new; the others obscure.
Spoil the Legion and LAntern 52 references for me, por favor?
The Legion one is old news - some Dominators were seen scheming, and used the slogan ‘Remember the fifdeetu’.
The Lantern one is odder, and not much of a spoiler - after dialoguing in a sinister fashion, the Guardians of the Universe adjourned their meeting with ‘52’ - used like a church congregation might say ‘Amen’. They were talking about a secret in sector 3601, some kind of path.
Finishing up : Fables, Ex Machina, Nodwick, JLA Classified, and Green Arrow.
