Weight of Wood

Does anyone know how much wood weighs per square foot. I know different woods weigh differently so for the sake of this question we can all just refer to pine. (Since I just got off work from busting my tail all day and am too lazy to figure it up) Could you tell me how much a 14’ 8x12 of pine would weigh. This is to take into consideration that none of it is rotten or waterlogged.

14’ 8x12 pine?
Thats one big tree!

You can’t calculate the weight of a piece of timber by only two of it’s dimensions; how thick is it?

14 foot long and 8 inches by 12 inches… Yeah pretty big to have it fall on your hand and sit there until two others can get it off of you.

Sorry, guess I should have put the " after the 8 and 12 so as not to confuse anyone. Told you I’m tired.

It would take me longer to post the OP than to calculate it. The specific gravity of pine would be around 0.35 and I’m also too lazy to do more.

Pine weighs about 30-40lb per cubic foot, so taking a middle value of 35, that’s 0.0203lb per cubic inch.

Your piece is ((14*12=168)128) = 16128 cubic inches, so it should weigh about 325 pounds or so.

That’s some piece of timber.
