I’m currently trying to lose some weight and have a balanced exericise program (weights plus cardio) as well as watching my diet. I know muscle weighs more than fat and that inches are a better measure than pounds.
Now on to my question…I’ve noticed that during the times I’m lifting heavy weight to try to bulk up, I will lose very little weight or may even gain weight over the week. After the soreness wears off (about 48 hours), I’ll see a drop in weight either back to where I was before lifting or slightly below.
During the time my body is recovering and rebuilding muscle, does the body also conserve energy by not burning fat stores? Or is my body burning fat but because of the muscle rebuilding, all the extra energy is being used?
And a last question…should I even try to be bulking up while trying to lose weight or should I lift light weights just to retain muscle tone but lay off the heavy weights?
