As to the issue that nobody has suggested this devalues the opposite accusations agaisnt Weinstein, we *have *had comments though about an expectation that it will harm the greater overall point of the Truth Tellers/ #MeToo/ etc. – but not helped by the wording of the thread title as “Weinstein accuser accused…” rather than “Notable MeToo figure accused…”
I would wish to clarify some things there: Is this poster saying they expected something to bring down the, if not movement, phenomenon, by last spring?
And I find the “due process” and pitchfork language suggestive that in this poster’s view, #MeToo is an instance of Internet Shaming Lynch Mob mentality. Which it is not. Would there be Internet Shamer Lynch Mobs opportunistically hitching their wagons to it? Hell yeah. But Argento’s and Weinstein’s cases ares not so, they are actual accusations. In this particular instance Harvey is already getting his due process for HIS alleged wrongs, and I would damn well expect the same thing to happen with Asia for HERS.
Argento deserves support and to be believed that she was victimized.
Bennet deserves support and to be believed that he was victimized.
The legal system will determine guilt of the accused, this is a slow, plodding process that rarely ends satisfactorily for the injured. In the meantime, the victim-survivors can be supported - this can happen without rushing to judgment, or stringing anyone up by their eyelids.
I’m asking what the point of the OP is.
Of the three questions I asked the OP definitely alludes to the last one (implying that the press will not report the story), so that would seem to be what the thread is about. Except that the OP also refutes that proposition with his/her link.
So if it’s not that, what’s it about? I’m not accusing anyone of saying anything. I’m asking what the OP is driving at.
I am bemused to learn that “Rape victims are often prostitutes. Drug addicts. Petty thieves. And the occasional “good girl”.” I confess that I have no experience in dealing with sex crimes. Or criminal law, full stop, and my knowledge comes only from the media. It is however a great relief to know rape is mainly confined to the demi-monde, and I am most grateful for having been enlightened.
