Weird Al question; Welcome to

I was having a nostalgic moment today, but it appears to be clouded by my many years and youthful indulgences. I’m hoping you guys can help me sleep tonight by setting my memory straight for the record.

Back in the late 80’s, didn’t Weird Al cut a tune called Welcome to McDonalds that was a parody of Welcome to the Jungle by G-n-R? I can find references and lyrics to other folks (mere mortals) doing this, but not the master himself. Am I mis-remembering things, or is this another conspiracy from The Man?

While I can understand Mr Kroc hushing the parody, I can also picture that we were just stoned and making shit up, too.

I’ve never heard it, and I’d be surprised if there were a Weird Al song from that era that I haven’t heard. It was probably done by someone else and ascribed to him. Back in the Napster days, it seemed that you could find every novelty song ever recorded out there with his name on it.

There’s a huge number of parodies that are attributed to WAY that he didn’t write.
Weird Al Wikia has no mention of it and it’s not on any of the albums I have.

From a cursory search it appears to be a parody by someone other than Al, but not sure who came up with it. I don’t think it’s as old as you think it might be.

I remember it. “We got fries for you”. “Ch-ch-ch-cheese! Cheese!” As parodies go, i thought it was OK.

Don’t know who it was though. A Youtube excerpt says it is by Tim Hawkins, whoever that is.

Never heard of it either, but I have a ton of non-Al songs attributed to him from the Napster days as well, so that’d be my guess.

Found this. No attribution, though.

A comment on the youtube video indicates it comes from a comedy album called Kids (or Kid’s) Rock by Tim Hawkins. Quick google search seems to have related links, but I can’t really verify at work.

Yeah, that fits Tim Hawkins and sounds like him. He’s a Christian comedian who does some song parodies in his act, and has released some of them on CD. They are usually pretty short

I can’t find him doing a live version, but I did find him singing the original in that voice, about 24 seconds in to this video. Link goes to the full video for context.

Yes, I know it. I actually know the guy that wrote it too. There are probably different versions, but AFAIK, he came up with itfirst.

There is song called ‘kids rock’ by Tim Hawkins.
