Weird computer problem (can't find downloaded pictures later)

Hi All, I have Googled endlessly but to no avail, many combinations of the words pictures, downloads, can’t find, later, help, unable to find, missing, disappeared, and probably more that I’m not thinking of. Here’s what happens:

When we try to download images (do the “save image as” function on Firefox), it appears as if the image is going to be saved and computer asks for the location etc. (Windows XP) We click “save” but then if we look in the folder (or the desktop or wherever) where we’ve “saved” the file, it isn’t there. Not only is the file not visible in the folder where it seems like it was saved, it doesn’t show up in the “Search” function. This began happening perhaps a day or two ago. We haven’t changed any programs, operating systems or any settings.

Another strange thing, perhaps unrelated, is that the “Download Manager” window that used to appear when downloads were in progress, simply stopped appearing about three months ago, even though in the “tools>options” panel, the box stating “show the Downloads Window when downloading a file” is and as far as I know, has always been checked.

Anyone with any idea what is happening to our pictures we’re trying to download, or how to stop it?:confused::confused: Any thoughts appreciated.

Bring up the downloads window with ctl-J. Right-click the entry for the picture and select “open containing folder.”

As to why the downloads window isn’t showing up automatically, I dunno. Try clearing the cache or starting FF up in safe mode to see what happens.

Sounds like a bugged installation of firefox, try re-installing.
