Can we cut back on the amount of Zombie sites linked to in Weird Earl’s? They don’t do anything for me, and I have to figure that once a quarter would be enough for the Zombie enthusiasts on the board. I look forward to expanding my horizons every week with a new wacky subject, but lately it’s one undead boring brain eating thread after another.
I’m not answering the question on Weird Earls, but I would like to give you an interesting thing to think about - I’m being purely academic here, not saying there aren’t too many zombie Earls:

Cecil receives an unusual amount of zombie-related questions, IMO.

The Staff Report I wrote on “Zombies and Power Plants” got me more e-mails than all the other 3 dozen or so Staff Reports combined, and at least a dozen requests for re-printing (typically, I only got 1 per every 2-3 Reports). For a while it was also incredibly pirated - about 2 weeks after it ran, I found it copied verbatim (almost always with my name and any reference to The Straight Dope removed) on no less than about 100 other sites when I Googled for it. I also got a request to quote from it heavily for a book someone was reputedly going to write (which if it happened, I haven’t seen it, and it wasn’t Max Brooks).
Just something to think about…for some reason zombies are on a lot of folks minds.
What she said.
I get tons of zombie Weird Earls, apparently it’s a hugely popular subject that some people never get tired of seeing.
It’s also regularly covered on the board in fun and interesting ways that make it appropriate for Threadspotting as well.
I’d love to feature other stuff and not just the Wide World of Zombies but I work with what I get.
The community is always invited to send me interesting, fun, wacky sites you find that are Weird-worthy as well as anything on the board that you think would be good featuring to a larger audience. I run the best of what I get three times a week – not counting the link to Straight Dope Chicago.
Brrrrraaaaaiiiiinnnnnssss!
Thought I should point out that 9 of the 11 Zombie links on the first two pages were apparently submitted by the same person, twobookworms. I really have no idea why zombies would be such a hot topic, as suggested by Una. Pretty odd.
Still, I know you have to work with what you’ve got. The only thing I could suggest to Second Stone is to try to submit stuff himself, but that doesn’t really help his goal of passively clicking new weird links.
Exactly. This is the place I get weird links to spam my acquaintances with. Either that or Lolcats. But we all already know abouy Lolcats.
