Weird Interview: Dick Cavett and Cassavettes, Gazzara, Falk

They were supposed to be there to talk about their recently completed movie Husbands (1970). Cavett drops a couple of hints indicating he thinks they’re drunk. Regardless of the reason, they come off at best as incredibly boorish:
- YouTube I’ve never been much of a Cavett fan, but he really held it together despite the odds.

Ben Gazzara and Gena Rowlands did the play “Love Letters” at a theater where I worked.
Both were quite nice, especially Gena, but I don’t think I ever saw Ben without a drink in his hand. Before and after the show, he always had some mixed drink in a glass and would knock one back after another.
He was never (obviously) drunk on stage though.

This is an absolutely epic crew - I only wish they collaborated on more things as a group. Husbands is utterly brilliant - one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. I loved that clip (I’d seen it many times before.)

OMFG I am going to watch the shit out of this interview ASAP. I’m almost done as co-writer of a book on Cassavetes, and, it goes without saying, Falk, Gazzara, and even humble John are tops actors. Thanks!
