I’m currently renting a condo but am moving this upcoming weekend. This morning at 6:30, I got a phone call from my landlady. Being asleep, I didn’t get to the phone until after voicemail had picked up. She left a message asking me to call her back to touch bases, so . . .
~ring~ring~
Landlady “Hello?”
Me “Hello Landlady. This is Amberlei returning your call.”
Landlady “My call? You’re returning my call? Who are you?”
Me “Amberlei Lastname. I rent your condo and you called and asked me to return your call.”
Landlady “Who? I don’t know you. I didn’t call you.”
Me “Amberlei Lastname. I rent your condo at Mystreet. You just called me and asked me to call you.”
Landlady “I have a condo there, yes. Who are you?”
Me “Amberlei Lastname. I’ve been your tenant for four years now.”
Landlady “Who? I didn’t call anyone. I just woke up half an hour ago.”
Me “This is Landlady Lastname, isn’t it?”
Landlady “Yes, who is this?”
Me “Amberlei Lastname. I rent your condo on Mystreet. You called and left a message for me to call you.”
I’ve been known to have entire conversations with people and not even remember I had them because I was woken out of a dead sleep. Maybe this is a similar situation with Landlady. If she truely did just wake up 30 minutes prior, maybe she’s one of those people that doesn’t wake up easily and it takes her awhile to get her mind up to speed. Maybe she didn’t have her morning cup of coffee to get her engine started yet.
I would try calling her back later in the day when she’s fully awake. She may not remember calling you but she probably will remember who the tenant is that is renting her condo.
Yeah right, mrAru and I were married for 3 years and my stepmonster-in-law didnt know my name, and still has ‘trouble’ remembering it invariably asking who? when I have to call them for one reason or another…
