Weird thing that I spit out this morning - Doper MDs, any guesses? (TMI! Yuck!)

I assume that no Dopers remember my past threads about Strep Throat (which I had for several weeks despite antibiotics) at the beginning of October. Well, I did get over the strep, but my throat continued to be sore and my sinuses runny etc. I also had fluid behind my right ear and a swollen right tonsil. In fact, all my troubles continued on the right side despite testing negative for strep. My doctor said it was allergies and put me on allergy medicine.

Well… I wonder. This morning I was cleaning house and when I leaned over I felt the weird feeling that usually means a tonsillith is about to come out. (I suppose some may have thought of that when viewing the thread title…but that’s not what it was.) It felt…BIGGER… than the usual tonsillith and was accompanied by a violently bitter taste. I ran to the bathroom.

I gagged and spit out, well, a spherical wad of white powdery substance about the size of a large pea or maybe a small peanut. :eek: I tasted a horrible taste, as if I had chewed up some sort of medicine pill instead of swallowing it. I proceeded to spit out several more, smaller chunks of apparently the same substance. The taste did not subside for several minutes.

All I can think of is that at some point I swallowed a Tylenol or something and instead of going into my esophagus, that it got lodged way up in my sinuses or somewhere inside my upper respiratory system. My BF said that he thinks it was a big piece of the infection and it tasted bad because it was all the accumulated poisons of my illness. All I know is that my sinuses and throat feel a lot better. What was that thing? Any ideas or guesses, Dopers? Anyone with similar experiences that’s found out what the stuff was, or anyone else who might know or have a relevant guess, please write!

Yuck.

Still have it? Maybe you can take it to your doc for analysis.

Tonsil stone, maybe? But they’re not usually powdery, I don’t think.

Currently having sinus problems myself, I would think you would be able to feel something the size of a pill lodged even somewhere close to your sinuses. Hell, you ever get a liquid up there (i.e. milk or beer?)?

I wonder if it’s possible your pills got lodged just ahead of your stomach somewhere, and never really dissolved. One would think your Tylenol would easily dissolve in your stomach.

But then again, you may have digested that alien probe they put inside you. They’ve been known to disintegrate over years of time. But then again, the CIA hasn’t caught up with extra-terrestrial technology yet, so theirs may have broken down sooner than the aliens’.

Based your description of the taste and size (and the apparent lack of smell), I’d say it’s a pill that got stuck somewhere. Tonsil stones have a very distinctive flavor and smell; I wouldn’t describe either as bitter.
