(ghost of Tom): Hey Maha, you might want to consider indicating my former position as Tom Scud/cucuy, for this turn, to get people used to it
I’m running late.
The thing that has pinged me most in the reread I’ve just done is Joey P’s vote of BS PI in post [post=11407712]166[/post]. Particularly, I didn’t like his first stated reason.
What got me about it was that, while it is indeed a reasonable general principle, in this specific case it was not applicable.
The reason it was not applicable is that BS PI had already given a reason, and had done so only six minutes and two posts after he placed the vote. Let’s look for ourselves.
(All times BST).
[post=11407471]159[/post] on 03/08/09, 11:52pm. BS PI votes.
[post=11407476]160[/post] on 03/08/09 at 11:54pm. FS votes BS PI and demands explanation.
[post=11407509]161[/post] on 03/08/09 at 11:58pm. BS PI explains vote.
So much for that justification in this particular case.
Maybe BS PI should have put his explanation into his vote post. But the speed with which he produced it makes it quite clear that he’d had it in mind when voting. This shows up your attack as a smudge. Quite a good one too; you take a general Mafia principle and twist it into an attack.
When you wrote 166, you knew, or should have known, that BS PI had responded to the challenge almost immediately. I have not seen you acknowledge that in my reread. Even your vote switch was not motivated by another suspicion, and you returned to BS PI later.
Vote Joey P.
I want my suspicion on record.

**Fear gripped the town and for awhile, no one could suggest or think of anything.
Then, the accusations began. Once they began, the flood gate opened and the townspeople were caught within a flurry of blame and chaos.
“It’s NAF!!! It’s Boozahol!!! It’s Meeko!!! It’s everyone!!!” screamed some.
“No!!! Not everyone! It’s Freudian Slit” insisted some.
Some just laid down and sighed, “Hey, Meeko annoys me and I want him to disappear!!!”
When he didn’t, some said, “Well, this town is too small for Meeko and me, so I’ll just leave.”
The town, who were totally confused, eventually settled on Freudian Slit. They gathered around Freudian Slit, who looked very surprised, and proceeded to force him/her to the ground. Once on the ground, they cut his/her throat and watched anxiously as he/she bled to death.
Freudian Slit is now 100% dead.
“Well, was he/she a member of the Crimson Thorns?” said a voice from the mob.
“I have no idea,” said……well, everyone.
A townsperson said, “I assumed we would just immediately ‘know’ who he/she was. Why don’t we?”
One person said, “Let me look at Freudian Slit carefully. Perhaps, I can tell if he/she had a hidden past.” The townsperson approached Freudian Slit and examined him/her.
The individual paused, then said, “Nope. No idea. Maybe he/she was us or maybe not. I have no idea. I mean, how can I know just by looking?”
Suddenly, two things happened at the same time. First, the crowd was hit with an overwhelming sense of fear and fatigue. They strongly felt they must head home and rest.
Secondly, they experienced an odd sense. The townspeople felt an overwhelming feeling of security, as if they knew they would who Freudian Slit truly was when the time was right.
Oddly, they were no longer worried about Freudian Slit’s true identity. They returned to their homes, went to bed, contemplated the days events, and slept soundly.
It is now Night. You are all at home and may NOT talk strategy. Talking strategy implies leaving your house and opens you to being killed on the spot. More specifically, I’ll modkill you if you talk strategy. Got it?
Day Two will begin on Monday at 10 AM Eastern. Night Actions, if any, must be in by 9:59 AM.
Let me give you some fluff topics to discuss:
Tell us if you are male or female. We tend to assume male on everyone because we are pigs.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you. 100% out of game and 100% real life things, of course.
[COLOR=“Magenta”]I’ll go first: I am male and have a baby daughter who lives in Korea. My wife and I adopted her and will pick her up around October/November of this year. She is very cute!
**
Sleep tight!

I’m not happy.
No, not happy at all.
**I have webbed toes. **
If you can top that, go ahead.
Catching up. It’s going to be a couple of longish multi quotes from me, sorry.
Firstly, play one game and only one game. You haven’t played enough games with me to metagame my behavior, and that last game was an annomily. It’s not reflective of my normal playstyle, and I think most people who have played with me will be able to tell you that. (note smiley, comment was made with a smile.)
My vote on Tom is too convinient? I have heard that said before, would you tell me what you mean?
You got that just right. It’s the only form of smudge that actually means anything, anything else that someone calls out as a smudge isn’t acutally a scum tell, it’s just a mafia player tell.
Really? You think this is a good vote? This goes for the rest of you too and I am really not comfortable with the purple votes to sub meeko either. Play the hand you are dealt. But Nanook acutally put down a vote so to those people, why do you want to lynch someone that many of you are saying you think is probably town?
By the same token, Meeko, Ed isn’t an idiot and you are taking some of this too personally. Some of it seems like it should be taken personally, but the stuff from Ed isn’t personal, it’s mafia. OMGUS votes are bad. Ed’s vote for you was weak, but your defense of it with an OMGUS is worse. It isn’t acutally scummy though and is rather consistant with your play in previous games so…
See note to Nanook (same goes for Ed but I must not have hit the multiquote on that post and I don’t want to go back to look for it now.)
It’s possible I guess, but no, I am not buying it. It’s a weak as hell case and it’s not based on anything other than you looking for an explination for why you got a vote. Unfortunatly conspiracy is generally not the accurate interpritation of events.
I think you can be, but you need to depersonalize the process a bit first and learn some of the lessons that others have already learned.
Two big things,
- simple explinations are more likely to be true
- scum are generally smarter than town on Day 1. Smart money doens’t get heavily involved in high profile activities. There are some exceptions, but the smart townie generally doesn’t go for the high profile players Day 1 as we are trying to even up our odds.
See, like this here. This isn’t Haggle. Don’t get so focused on Ed, do what you think is best for town and don’t get into a one on one thing with Ed. There’s no benefit there.
Interesting. I like to hop around my vote on Day 1 these days and sort of follow the thread. I don’t like that this vote discourages using voting as a tool to gather information. I should say that I thought I had mentioned in subsequent posts that I no longer find Tom to be scummy, and while I do think that FS is acting scummier than Oredigger I think Oredigger’s odds of being scum are higher based on the tell he exhibited.
I don’t see the problem with moving a vote in that manner. Oredigger feels less good of a vote on a gut level but is intelectually the right choice. It’s too early in the game for me to trust my gut yet so my vote is going to stay with Oredigger.
This is kind of an asshole move, but is a nother point in your favor as probably a townie. To what CIAS said, I will probably not be voting for you again toDay or any time soon. Amazing how what makes for a good tell at the start of Day 1 isn’t so good close to the end isn’t it CIAS? It’s like the game is fluid and changes as the information available changes or something?
Well crap, that took me an hour to post and I didn’t get it in on time or even get to the next page of the thread.
Grr. I’m dead? Well, if I’m a ghost, can I have a drink?
WHAT THE HELL???
Cannot… compute.
Boozy, open the bar, will you. **storyteller **needs a stiff drink and Freudian Slit needs some spirits.
Hi, **storyteller **it’s been a while.
Um…that was weird.
I am unusually insensitive to extreme temperatures. Hot and cold.
Yessir, Cat. Bar’s open and I’m serving. In honor of Freudian Slit’s untimely demise, the special tonight’ll be a mystery drink. It’s colorless, odorless, and tasteless but clearly ain’t water. And it’ll get you drunk when the time is right.
::grumbles::
NETA:
Not that Freudian is colorless, odorless or tasteless. And she’s welcome to shake her groovy ghost thing in the beautifully adorned cages up and to the left of the bar, as always.
Is what I do not taste, see, or smell Iocane Powder?
Or, are you just WIFOM ing right now?
By George, I think he’s got it!
Awww, well, if you insist.
Boozy, could you make mine with a splash of vodka? Sits back to enjoy the show.
Wait…
WHAT?
Aahahahahahah!
Oh Mahaloth, you are an amusing mod.
And yes, I’ll take a drink.
I’m a 21 year old male, single, Aussie. On Monday I had a job interview and on Thursday I auditioned for a reality TV show. Yesterday I cleaned grime from my lab. For breakfast today I ate eggs, carrot, beans, corn and porridge, with a small glass of apple juice. Oh, and a muffin. The muffin was nice. I need to do my laundery. I have cola in the fridge. For some reason I am posting in stream of consciousness.
Beans? For breakfast?
Everything’s upside down in Australia, innit?
