I keep hearing mumblings about the game being unbalance, but to my untrained eye, I think it was just fine. Considering it ended up coming down to two town and one scum (as opposed to, say, 5 or 6 town alive at end game).
Yeah, I don’t think it as unbalanced at all. There were elements that may have been a little less than fair to either side, but on the whole I think the unfair elements balanced out nicely and the game itself worked well.
The game was hard, but that doesn’t mean it was unballanced, it just means it was good.
The game itself worked fabulously. It was great fun to follow along with, both spoiled and not.
Now that the game is over, I have to ask, what’s everyone’s opinion on messing with another player.
I have to admit that near the beginning I was messing with Meeko to keep him worked up. IME, the game slows to a halt when he gets like that so I tried to do fire him up, then back off a little and let everyone else get all fired up. Once it dies down, I start it back up a little (it started to really work in my favor when people started voting him). On the one hand, Ped mentioned that the idea kinda bugged him and seemed unfair, my opinion was that, at the heart of it, this game is all about social engineering. Yeah, I was using his personality to work against town, but that’s what this game is all about. It’s not a game of randomness (like a dice game is), it’s all about how people react to the other players.
So, is it fair to get people worked up to slow the scum hunting down?
FTR, I’m not just talking about me doing it to Meeko, I’ve seen Paul (or was it Peeker) do it also (to me).
Alright way to go town. I’m off to read the spoiler boards before I make any comments.
Well. I’m not sure what to make of all of this.
I kinda dropped off long before my death.
Then again, if I had to pick between playing Mafia all day, or learning the ins and outs at my new Job… I love you guys, but, you know, I got to get money in here sooner or later.
Totally fair. It’s also totally fair to lynch someone for doing the same. But as Hoopy said (somewhere) scum are always at a slight disadvantage in a well balanced game, so my feeling is that it’s ok for them to fight a little dirty. Town needs to recognize that it’s not ok for town to fight dirty though, because seeing who is fighting dirty is a great way to help pick out scum.
Eventually you will figure out how to do both. We all do. At this point you are trapped. Don’t try to fight it, mafia has already won.
It will be here. And yes, it will be awesome.
That’s the stance I’d take, too. Likewise, I’ve seen Scum going ballistic (or faking the same) all on their own, as a way to distract from what they see as an impending Town win, and I’ve voted on that basis, too (one of the lynches I spearheaded in the Lost game was based on that-- For a short while, it looked like we might be able to get to where the confirmed were a majority of living players, and someone (I can’t remember whom offhand) got extremely upset at the possibility).
Yes, as ped said already. And you are all invited.
Ah, I found what I was referring to in my previous post-- It was ShadowFacts.
Well, to be fair here NAF, I have only been at my job for 8 work days. So, yeah, sitting out for a bit.
Then again, wasn’t that my plan for this game? … And then I started up another one on top of that.
I was one of those who initially thought that the unblockable-kill Godfather was unbalanced, but in retrospect it was more of a monkey wrench than anything else.
Great game, guys! Way to go, Town!
I had my suspicions about JoeyP after after he came up as Town in my investigation but didn’t put it together that he might be undetectable as a Godfather role until after I died. It made sense I saw USCDiver as scum since he was a Miller, but again I missed that until too late. All told, my failure rate never actually materialized— I had 100% responses to all investigations, as any full-power Investigator would know, those results will come up in any game.
Great game, Mahaloth! Thanks for having me play, and thanks to Tom for allowing me to come in. This was my first time participating in Dope Mafia and I hope I can play another game soon.
Just go here:
And I’ll approve anyone for spoiler discussion or a chance to see the scum discussion.
When are we going to get the next one going, pede?
Just for the record I did send in a block on my last Night. I followed Boozy’s plan and blocked NAF. I just rechecked and the PM is in my sent folder.
Soon, we’re working on some small details. Signups should be quite soon.
I can’t wait for the next one. Ped’s made a very interesting game and I’m thrilled to co-mod it.
Pardon me, but this is wrong.
It wasn’t communicated to me at all, in case you forgotten.
