Welcome back. Now fuck off.

Awesome! I’m glad you were able to successfully register and rejoin this madhouse.

And allow me to echo askeptic in extending the traditional fuck off that we like to greet all recently returned members with. Fuck off, 5-HT. Fuck off very much.

Well said, sir!

Thank you. Although, to be fair, we’re pretty much angry all the time no matter what anyone does. It’s just part of being an out of control rage monster.

…isn’t **that ** mod ass-kissing? Is it covered in the terms and agreements?

Only under the most liberal interpretation thereof.

Nah.

THIS is mod ass-kissing.

See now this is what I call customer service.
Welcome back now fuck off. If Skip had only done that, we wouldn’t be here right now.

That’s kind of puke-inducing to me. I like the dope, really I do, but Galloping Jesus on a Calliope, are we THAT hard-assed?

Oh, and fuck off.

Only in the most figurative of senses.

I suspect that people see the word “banned” and assume it carries the same connotation in all cases. Posters are banned for being jerks or breaking various rules, including being socks or having multiple user names.

In this case, since the user was upfront, then he/she wasn’t a sock, so the user wasn’t banned, just the user account wasn’t allowed. Since there isn’t another category such as “Invalid Account” then it get lumped into banned, which could be the cause of the misunderstanding.

Since I always slow down at traffic accidents to see blood, I’ll often open closed threads to see why they were closed, even if I’m not that interested in the content. I was surprised to be “BANNED” until I read the note.

I agree that Skip could have added the instruction to email administration.

At the risk of sounding reasonable in the Pit, please consider adding a sticky to ATMB for returning members who have lost passwords. Then that sticky could be referred to.

Oh, and fuck off.

I, too, am a sock. I am a '99er and I was on a break from the boards when we went pay to post. I couldn’t remember my exact username or password and I had gotten rid of my old email. I signed up under this name, paid my $15 right away, and emailed Tuba.

She was very cool with it.

(Of course, I no longer have that 1999 join date, so I can’t be one of the cool kids. So, there is a downside to doing it this way :frowning: )

Is this turning into a love-fest, or do I have to fuck off now? :frowning:

No, just wash the dishes.

Why, I am unconsolably distressed by your implication, suh. The hickeys that Giraffe has been kind enough to allow me to leave on his tasty ass have been purely coincidental, and have had nothing to do with his exceeding competence or good looks.

You were banned too? :dubious:
I’d be surprised to be banned just for reading too.

Bannination for everyone!

Now eat your fuck-off like a good Roo.

see :smack: But I think you should be banned for reading this.

I can’t decide if I’m supposed to be insulted, titillated or . . .
What’s a good Roo to do?

I didn’t see a thing.

The sarcasm! It burns!

Seriously, a question for those who feel that up front Second Acck ounts should be cut some slack re: a second guest membership. What is the criteria for having your Doper ‘virginity’ back? Gone a year, two years? Gone more than 40% of the length of your original membership? If it’s not a policy, it’s a priviledge granted at whim, and one subject to abuse. “Hey, I’m Wally, I’m back (I just don’t remember my password).”

I like the policy just fine, SkipMagic may have seemed abrupt, but you only get ‘one bite at the apple’. How else could he have phrased it? You can lurk for free, Gazoo has plenty of opportunity to lurk and find out what the board’s like these days.

Oh shit, I’m being all reasonable and mild in the pit, again. I’ll go…

Masturbate like a motherfucker.

As long as people are wanting to resubscribe we’re happy to accommodate them; I’ll do whatever is necessary to get them where they should be.

While it works better if they contact one of us off the list to explain the situation first, not everyone thinks to do that; they get all excited to be back at the board, create another screen name, and make posts. In those circumstances we try to catch 'em as quick as we can and straighten out the situation. What we usually do is find the old name, merge the two accounts into one user name (under whatever name the poster wants, old or new) and we move forward.

If the old name can’t be found (or remembered or whatever) we just go forward with the new name, though we do some diligence to match up the old with the new.

Most people are not intending to defraud or to sneak back in with malicious intent and it’s no harm, no foul if they tell us up front what’s going on. We do move swiftly to close the second name, though, that’s our policy and always has been. When a moderator closes access to a screen name the only option they have is to use the ban function. There’s something about seeing “BANNED” under a user name that looks particularly ugly and I guess it’s natural for someone to see that and think, oh, we’ve dropped the ban hammer on someone, they’re a bad person. Ain’t always like that.

I’ll see what I can do to coax our errant sheep back into the fold; it’s nice when old friends come back.

Jenny
You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
