I was a member five years ago. Shortly before the boards went all pricey-like, I lost my job so I never paid up.
A few months back, after lurking and regaining a feel for these boards, I decided I wanted to be a guest.
Couldn’t remember myold password, so I signed up under a new name. Realised what I had done and started a thread in ATMB titled Am I a Sock?. I found out I was, took steps to remedy it, and all was hunky-dory.
It wasn’t difficult, and all it took was an awareness of the rules.

Nope. I’m willing to bet most of us skimmed the user agreement, and don’t read ATMB on an even semi-regular basis.
“Email the mods/admins” should be a fairly automatic response to questions about membership and posting, but my impression is that it doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should. They start threads instead.

No, I wasn’t banned at all. Neither my original username, nor my new one (made from a different IP, so if I had so chosen, I could’ve been a completely new poster with nobody the wiser). I created a second account to post, already having outlined my thread. Frank and Tuba didn’t “jump in,” being “on duty,” they read the thread and worked with me on the issue as per my request.
