I don’t think those requirements still exist. I made bases with very low-level characters, and all of the beacons were available from the get-go.
Remember also that when using the auction house, patience = money. People pay top dollar to get things NOW and you will pay a lot less if you’re willing to wait.
My most powerful tool for getting what I want and getting it at a good price has been “giving up and going to bed.” Set a low bid and go play a character not dependent on this bid coming in. Sometimes it takes a few days, but usually overnight seems to be enough.
Real-life example: this past weekend I wanted an attuned Sudden Acceleration Knockback-to-Knockdown IO. They were selling for 6.77 million to 10 million, mostly 10 million, with a lot of bids listed. I tried a few lowball bids, 2 million or so, then inched higher, but up to 7 million I still wasn’t getting any joy. So I cleared those bids (you get a full refund for canceling a bid) and put in a bid for just over 4 million and went to bed.
In the morning I had won the bid for 4 million and had my prize, and the last 5 sales all showed 10 million. I probably could have picked it up even more cheaply, frankly, as I recently saw someone snuck one out for 1.2 million.
You can also, if you’re patient, make money by finding things that are listed at the wrong price, and re-selling them at the going rate. One extreme of this is low-level enhancements that can vendor for more than you can auction them for, though it’d be really slow to make serious money that way.
That seems common, something being sold for 500 that gets 5,000 at a vendor. But if you wanted to get the millions for an attuned enhancement you’d have to make this kind of transaction thousands of times.
I’m often bemused that the best PvP in a MMO is at the auction house.
Just like in real life.
Could be! My data is, like, eight years out of date.
How about the Snipe changes?
I really like the change. The 4.5 damage scale for the out-of-combat slow snipe makes it really hard-hitting; it’s more attractive as an opener now. Feels like a headshot! And it has “Sniper shot!” text floating up from your target to help clarify the difference between the slower, harder hit and the fast snipe.
Also several of my characters have much nicer attack chains with the fast snipe now available for routine rotation.
I like the snipe changes. My blaster can sometimes one shot even-level minions with it.
On the downside, I seem to have hit a roadblock on the Incarnate quest line. I’m supposed to go take out a base that has at least two Elite Bosses, three portals, and approximately 1 metric buttload of summoned critters. I’ve tried, but just can’t solo it. I guess I’ll have to try to get a team to do it…which I hate. Strongly prefer to solo major story line material. Sigh.
The default difficulty setting is one up from the lowest so, if you haven’t touched the difficulty, you can knock it down a notch.
A lot of people are grumbling about the snipe changes, but I don’t think there’s actually any situation where they’re nerfed now relative to what they used to be. And some situations where they’re buffed significantly, from “not possible” to “another attack in your chain”.
Yeah I skipped snipe powers in the past because they seemed too situational. (I’m thinking specifically of Darkness ranged attacks where you get a snipe very early.) I might try one now.
Love the snipe changes.
That worked! It was still an epic battle, burned through all my inspirations and had only a sliver of health left when it was over. Thanks for the tip!
Great! I had a similar problem with soloing my Electric/Electric Blaster toward the end of the Praetorian content.
I’ve started knocking some of my more fragile alts down to -1, at least until they hit 22 and can equip SOs. I was getting frustrated with so many missions seeming to pop +1 to me, and even the ones that are generally at-level seem to be front-loaded with +1 mobs. Kinda frustrating walking into missions and having to deal with orange lieutenants that I can barely even hit as soon as I walk in the door, not to mention the mooks up front being more difficult than the named guy at the end
Which alts does everyone have in CECIL?
I’ve got Doc Salvage, Shadow Stranger, Hellfury, and Salary Man.
I can’t remember what all I have. I put a “note” in the supergroup listing for each of them indicating they were mine, but I don’t know if anyone else can see that.
Mine are, in rough order of level:
Peskipiksi, electrical/ice blaster
Dr. Clockwerk, gravity/time controller
Bridgekeeper, savage/regen scrapper
Inhuman Cannonball, invuln/strength tanker
Colonel Murphy, mercs/traps mastermind (Praetorian resistance)
Fortunate Daughter, widow (currently villain, will eventually redeem)
Monopole, force/rad defender
Speed Freek, street/bio brute (villain and will remain so)
Nubermensch, pistols/traps blaster (probably won’t ever level him up, don’t remember if I invited him)
I have no alts in CECIL, just my main (Swift Justice). I should add my alts, I have 7 of them on the server, I just haven’t gotten around to bringing in any of them.
Here are my characters:
Swift Justice, martial arts/invuln Scrapper hero
Rainmaster, storm/water Defender hero
Trouble Shooter, dual pistols/bio armor Sentinel villain
Killer Eel, savage strikes/elec armor Brute villain
Erl King, necromancy/time manip Mastermind Praetorian
Jade Panther, claws/willpower Stalker Praetorian
