OK there seems to be a lot of confusion abounding in the more vague brainstorming thread, so I’m presuming a bit and creating my own to set down the definites for all you would-be Crusaders against Ignorance in City of Heroes
We are forming a SuperTeam!
What will it be like? Since we’ve got such a breadth of interested parties, from the casual to the intense and from the roleplayer to the… well, whatever that opposite is, this SuperTeam will be an extremely casual affiliation existing more for socialization and facilitating team creation with folks we already know are cool (i.e: everybody on this board). Since no one else seems to want to do it right now, I’m going to step into the unofficial role of coordinating its creation until someone else seems more motivated or able.
How do you join? Simple! First you create a character on the Virtue server, dress them up as you wish, outfit them, run through the tutorial… then you do one of two things.
You can send an in-game email to Penitent saying you’re an SDMB member and wish to join up. Please also include your character’s archetype.
Post in this thread indicating your character name and archetype!
Either way I will mark down your character nick on our roster so that you can be notified when we form an official Team. I will also be posting regular updates to the roster HERE so that we can add each other to our respective friends lists.
What do I need from you? If you have a level 10 character, I need you to form a temporary SuperTeam to hold our membership and get back to me with the name. We can debate what we’ll name ourselves once we’ve got good in-game lines of communication going. Sound good?
Questions? Comments? Complaints? Sound off below.
(The usual disclaimer, of course: This SuperTeam is in no way endorsed or encouraged by Cecil Adams, the Chicago Reader, or James Bond. It is merely a free association of message board members and should not be construed as anything else. End legalese here.)
And once Gamestop gets around to sending me my copy of the game, I’ll log in and create my character. I did have a good name reserved on that server, briefly, but they wiped that namelist and I lost it. Grr.
Good…a US server. I was getting nervous there. As soon as NC sends my verification code I’ll get going…I imagine they are slammed right now though. Tonight will probably be rough on their servers. So far it’s taken about 10-15 minutes and no code.
Alright! I got my name of choice:Max Carnage! I’m a Tanker. Just completed the tutorial…and my game crashed. Going back in to see if I can find ya, Priam.
(I know there won’t necessarily be 12 members, but it’s a nice round number, and frankly, The Teeming Team sounds too much like the Teen Team from Invincible.)
I keep thinking to War Against Ignorance, but I dunno the cap on letters… If y’all are trying to reach me in-game, you should also try Frank N. Furter who I’m finding highly amusing to play.
Bad news: I’m already on a long-time team (from back in my DAoC days).
Good news: We are all playing on Virtue, and as such, if you want to add me to your friends list, I’d love to join you all some time. My character is named Disco Inferno (burn baby burn!) and is a 12th level Fire/Fire blaster.
Nightspeed, Magic Scrapper on Freedom Pyrohazard, Techno Blaster on Guardian
So far I’ve found Drake to be the easiest to play (I guess since he can soak up the most damage) and Pyrohazard the hardest (since everthing closed in to melee with him and he’s a ranged fighter).
I’m amazed at how smoothly the game runs. I’m running a P4 1.7 GHz with 512 Meg ram and an ATI Radeon 9000 vid card. I left all the graphics options at default and never saw any lag. (Things got a bit sluggish once in the center of Atlas Park but there must have been 50-60 players around at the time and it was only for a few seconds even then.)
I also like the fact that when I enter the warehouse or whatever for my mission I’m the only one in there. Makes the game very single-player friendly.
The costume designer is great. I saw some really creative costumes out there. (One guy complimented me on Nightspeed’s costume but there were a lot of them that were much better than mine.) I’m a little unclear on what the “link colors” button does though; I toggled it on and never seemed to be able to toggle it off again.
The only complaint I have is that it seems to be way too easy to run into something you can’t handle. I got jumped several times while running through the city by thugs that conned purple to me. (One time I got killed five times between the hospital and the warehouse I was trying to get into because a cluster of clockwork somethings were parked in front of it and I couldn’t reach the door without dying.)
Still, it was fun and I stayed up way too late last night playing. (Almost called in sick today but I’ve got a production load that I really need to be here for. Sigh. ) I don’t know how long it will be before it gets old (since there really isn’t much to the game besides running around and fighting things) but it should be a nice diversion for a while.
Ya know, we’re going to need to get some screen shots and create a hero photo gallery so we can show off our designs. And then get everyone together for a group shot.
It’s been a long time since I’ve done the MMORG thing, but COH is looking pretty good. (Plus I’d get to be a Fighting Dope, or a Legion of Cecil or something equally cool!)
I haven’t been able to find out the monthly fee, though. Can anyone tell me or give me a link?
Thanks,
-The future Cheez Wiz, fighting evil with the magical power of dairy
First month free. Each month after is $14.95 on a monthly basis (you can save if you buy in 3-6-12 month packages). It’s a bit steep, but I’m thinking for now it’s going to be worth it. Let’s see if they can keep me after a few months though.
I’ve got the game now, but it keeps locking up on me before I even get to character creation–all I get is a bar that says “Loading” across the screen. I may have sound card issues.
When/if I get it working, I’m planning a magic defender type.
Daaamn. Virtue is getting slammed tonight and I can’t log back on.
On the plus side, it didn’t even blink for as long as I was logged on doing intensive missions with Ryle (short sh*t). On the other plus side, the interface and effects for teleport friend is just waay too cool. Had fun tossing Ryle around the screen at random with two clicks of a mouse.
I enjoyed being tossed around, I felt like such a salad.
I just got on Virtue again and now they say they’re shutting it down for a bit to fix the lag. Hope to see you back there Priam, wanna go do some more missions together?
Blue Justice, tech blaster on Guardian Justice Blues, tech tanker of Virtue
The beginning missions for both characters are the same, mostly dealing with Clockwork. But it looks like there are several branches later that will change things. Lots of fun so far. But I need to read the manual more closely, the first timed mission I hit was a real surprise.
