So what’s the deal with the comic book they advertised? I haven’t seen much on it other than the leaflet in the box. It says your character may be in it (I assume as a background character, unnamed cameo.) How cool would that be? Especially if they did a team shot of the Justice Dopes, or Crusaders Against Ignorance, or Cecil League, or whatever…
According to their website, the first monthly comic book will be released any time now and mailed for free to subscribers as well as being placed on store shelves. And I shrink in horror and laugh with delight at the thought of Frank being on the cover
Mausmagill: You can start anywhere. Its easy to get from one zone to another.
Your starting missions are always the same depending on your character’s origin. Techs always get Clockworks, Naturals get Fifth Columns, Magics get Circle of Thorns and so on.
I had lots of fun with Max and Priam last night on Virtue. I’m the Emerald Blade, natural scrapper (katana/reflexes). I’m actually impressed by the servers so far. The lag is minimal, except when it’s so bad that it boots you off.
For a group name, let’s use our collective brain and fill out the acronym: “C.E.C.I.L.”. Let’s see, maybe “Cecil’s Eclectic Crusaders of Ignorance League”. Or, “Community Engaging Criminals, Ignorance, and Larceny”. Ok, maybe my examples aren’t great (except the first one :p), but you get the idea.
Can anyone give a quick summary of the different charater archetypes? (and what degree of hybridization is allowed)
Thanks
Brian
What’s the feel? What other MMORPG’s does it play like? Is it just a server full of Heroes walking around and no civilians?
Is it possible to make your own name for powers like in Freedom Force?
I’m Lightnin’, a mutation electrical blaster. He’s going to get speed, eventually, I think. I might play Silver, my scrapper speedster, though… he’s higher level. And a blast to play.
KidCharlemagne- I honestly can’t think of another game it’s like. It’s much more action-oriented than the other MMORPGs I’ve played. Moving around in combat matters. There are a ton of other supers, but also a ton of civilians that need rescuing. I can only imagine that getting any kind of insurance in Paragon City is… problematical. Even the police get robbed.
You can’t make your own powers or name existing ones, a la Freedom Force. But there are a LOT of powers, and they all interact with each other nicely. You can also easily enhance certain aspects of your powers- for example, Silver doesn’t like to burn endurance, so I’ve placed all sorts of enhancements on his powers so that they don’t cost much to use. My guy on another server has cranked his knockback punch so that the bad guys go flying.
N9IWP- the archetypes are Blaster (high ranged offense and high melee offense, no defenses), Scrapper (high no-range offense, some defense), Controller (buffs and control powers), Defender (very defensive for both the character and his friends), and Tanker (good melee, incredible defense). You can’t hybridize between classes, but you can pick powers from your list of available powers, and use enhancements, to sort of cross archetypes. When I played Lightnin’ in beta, he was a blaster that I played like a scrapper- just a few ranged attacks… mostly melee stuff and speed.
Ok, then what “species” (Like “natural”, “mutant” and “tech”) are there?
Can any “species” play any archetype? (so you could have a natural blaster, a mutant blaster, a tech blaster, etc)
More curious than anything. I play EQ mostly out of inertia. I beta tested SWG (and mostly liked it), and bought the game, but have yet to install it…
Brian
There are five Origins currently available. They describe your source of power. It’s mostly a cosmetic difference; there’s no difference in available powers or archetypes (some high-level loot will only work for certain Origins). Mutant: powers from your mutant genes. Science: radiation/chemicals changed you. Technology: ultratech equipment. Natural: training and natural talent. Magic: magical powers.
You can download the current manual to get a good overview.
Hey guys, hey Emerald.
I’m up to level 8 on my blaster now, (Ryle Dup) and I love flying!
Adding everyone to friends list that I see up here, hope to see you all ingame
Okay, I now have Brainiac4, Technology Controller, up and running on Virtue. I also have The American Legend, Science Tanker and Super-Collider, Technology Defender. I think I’ll be playing Brainiac4 most of the time on Virtue.
Since I have characters on other servers, and it sounds like others do as well, do we want to have a regular night and time set up for trying to get groups together, or just wing it?
I was unable to resist the call of a superhero MMO cause I’m sick of all the games I’m playing now. I’ll bug you in-game once I get a character set up.
Dunno if this has/will happened to anyone else, but…
You can buy it and get your key via PlayNC.com. If you download the zip, open it, and try and run Setup that way, it’ll error and won’t install. Extract all the files to a directory, it’ll install fine.
Ok, you can also look me up as the Clevlnd Steamer on Virtue!
What? He’s a steam powered robot from Cleveland, what are you thinking?
Alriiiiiiiight. Lysander Thorne, Level 2 Blaster here. I’m playing a friggin superhero game with unearthly powers and what do I wanna be? A L337 Sniper, d00d!
Anyway, I emailed Priam in-game, I hope, and will commence to smiting the evildoers. FOR JUSTICE!
Sorry for not being too conversational tonight. My wife had JUST gotten home, so I had to take a time out to spend time with her and make dinner. As soon as that was done, I had to return and continue with our task force, which is bugged so we could not complete it =/
On the bright side, I’m just a hair shy from hitting 14.
OK I’m currently taking a wee bit of a break from CoH, so I’d like to post
On A Lighter Note.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you… Fearless Leader
Looking particularly buff today in a tight metallic blue suit with silver highlights, he’s both fashionable and practical. Look at those hard pecs, suited for beating knowledge into even the most recalcitrant of ignorami. Truly Cecil is on the cutting edge of SuperHero Style.
And who’s this next down the catwalk? Why yes indeed it is that stunningly sweet transvestite Frank N. Furter. Looking absolutely scrumptious in a black leather corset and matching thong, he’s definately good for relieving your… tension. Gentlemen, I see you shiver with antici…
pation… to get your hands on this lovely catch. Well come on up, there’s plenty to go around.
Who will be the next superhero to strut their stuff down our catwalk? Ladies and gentlemen, stay tuned in!
whoohooo, downloaded the game last night, been playin all day. It’s a hoot.
Stilleto - Mutant/Scrapper, bout level 4 at the moment. Playing on Virtue.
