Welcome back to The Canadoper Café, 2023!

I’m really sorry to hear that. I had no French to speak of (sorry!) when I first worked there in '94. Since then, I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve worked in both Montréal and Québec. I’ve been lucky that my enthusiasm for the place has helped me to get around any anti-anglo sentiments I’ve encountered.

Best I can suggest for her is to keep trying until they accept her.

I was speaking of the CAQ, not Montrealers. The government is showing their strong disdain for anyone who does not suit their view of what their residents should be like. There is no animosity by Montrealers against her as an individual.

She loves the city and is so glad that she chose McGill - she nearly ended up at Guelph!

I’m delighted to hear that I mis-understood you!

Though - I lived just outside of Guelph from Jan. 2019 until April 2021, and I quite loved the place. Mind you, I was getting my FIL’s property ready to sell - he was one of the founders of the school of landscape architecture at University of Guelph in '68 or '69, and the last place he lived before going in to long-term care was a beautiful 20 acre property south-east of town. Your daughter could have done a lot worse than Guelph…

It’s getting down to the end of the year, and I’m thinking about starting the Canadoper Café, 2024 edition. But I find myself wondering - is there enough interest? We don’t seem to have the number of Canadians we used to, and I’m not sure we have the ‘critical mass’ and interest to keep a thread like this going.

What do the rest of you think?

I read almost every post even if I don’t reply. I for one would appreciate a 2024 thread.

You are hereby deputized, speaking on behalf of another Centre of the Universe dweller in Sunny Toronto.

Sure, why not? There may not be as many of us as there once were, but I appreciate a place where Canadians can discuss Canadian events and issues and other things that interest us.

Absolutely. I read every post and very much appreciate the thread.

We don’t need a quorum to comment on Canadian happenings.

I’ll wait for Pierre to post his long-form social media piece on that issue.

All righty, then - I’ll fire up the new one when it’s midnight in Labrador and Newfoundland!

I might be even still awake.

I’ll be awake. Midnight in Newfound and Labrador is only 8:30 pm here.

Still past my bedtime, if I have anything to say about it!

Well, that would be 10:30 pm in your location, so, understandable.

I’ve travelled a lot, and crossed numerous time zones, but that extra half-hour for Newfoundland is a killer. I was in St. John’s last October at a business conference, and while I got there with only minimal confusion, the trip back really disoriented me because of that half-hour.

Thankfully, next year’s conference will be here in Alberta.

Happy New Year, everybody! The new thread is up and running at this link - The Canadoper Café 2024 is now open! - #2 by Le_Ministre_de_l_au-dela
