Well, at least I know Rush is on drugs

Which would explain his disconnection from reality. I mean that’s what it is, right?

No one could knowingly, consciously, and with full awareness and acceptance choose to be so full to the brim, no, overflowing with such foul, pestilential, and mucilaginous shit as this man is, could they?

I hate this man with such a passion.

This man does not speak for me.

He was referring to the large selloff that occurred Wednesday, immediately after Obama was elected. The market had done quite well leading up to the election and dumped immediately upon the result. I had listened to this live. I do not believe the article cited is representing Rush’s argument accurately, and is ignoring the context that came immediately before and after this comment, which would have made this clear.

I find it annoying that this article doesn’t bother to accurately represent the argument he actually made.

Personally, I do not agree with Rush. It seems more like the old case of “buy on the rumor sell on the news.”

I heard him. His theory is that the market predicts events six to nine months ahead. Therefore there is a downturn because the market foresees a downturn in six months. All rather circular.

I also heard him say that in Obama’s first hundred days he will issue an executive order overturning California’s ban on Gay marriage.

He is no fun to listen to now that is completely delusional.

You do realize that he’s an entertainer and not a policy maker, right? I don’t worry much about John Stewart, Anne “Skeletor” Coulter, Al Frankin, or Rush.

Seems people get more worked up about commentators than politicians.

Yea, its not like any of those people is ever going to end up in the US senate or anything.

Which translates to an “Obama recession”, seeing that the post-election (and much larger pre-election) market drops have occurred during Bush’ tenure in office?

No doubt this stuff goes over boffo with that big majority of “Republican conservatives” who think Sarah Palin represents the party’s future, but it suggests a level of economic mastery equivalent to believing that Africa is a country.

Obama’s election is great news for Rush, seeing as he’ll have a live target to swing at instead of stumping for the despised Bushites, but apparently it’s going to be awhile before he gets some kind of coherent act together. If ever.

I’m sure he blamed the dotcom crash on Dubya on the same grounds. Rush is nothing if not consistent. :stuck_out_tongue:

Before I clicked into the thread I thought this was going to be a pitting of the band Rush for using drugs, and I was having a hard time figuring out why it was big news and why anyone would need to pit them for it.

You may now carry on with your trashing of this bloated, drug-addled nincompoop.

The part about Rush calling it (twice) the “Obama recession” was a direct quote. Basically, it really doesn’t matter what the before and after context was; this terminology is designed merely to inflame and to lay the blame for America’s current economic troubles at Obama’s feet.

One thing about Rush. He knows his core audience. And while there are many listeners who, apparently like yourself, can think critically about what he’s talking about and see he’s full of shit. But those listeners are in the minority. A majority of them are… what’s a nice way of saying it… dumb as a box of rocks. And when they here “Obama recession” they think “Obama recession”. They don’t think, Oh, heck Rush is just talking about the DOW; they think (and will regurgitate if given the opportunity) that the recession is Obama’s fault. And Rush plays them like a violin. By conflating things (the entire economy with the DOW), he gets many of his listeners to think the whole recession is Obama’s fault. And he throws in completely off the wall bullshit too, like Russia and their missiles and bankrupting the coal industry. He knows his audience, and he just throws as much crap up there as possible and lets the undiscerning take whatever they want.

But, even in this instance, Rush isn’t just blaming the post-election drops on Obama, he’s blaming the whole 4,000 point drop on Obama “That 4,000-point drop, that was also due to Obama.” He also spread more manure like " He wants to bankrupt the coal industry." and " He’s not facing a sinking economy. That’s exactly right. He’s causing it! He is causing the sinking economy."

He’s full of shit, and those, supposedly less discerning than yourself, swallow it all and beg for more. It’s pathetic.

Sorry, forgot to include the transcript of the lying piece of garbage.

Heh. Skeletor.

And more: A piece from the LATimes

(Bolding mine.)

Based on closing numbers for the Dow Jones Industrial Average:

August 4th - November 4th (election day minus three months): -1658.87
September 4th - November 4th (election day minus two months): -1562.95
October 3rd - November 4th (election day minus one month): -700.10
October 21st - November 4th (election day minus two weeks): +591.62
October 28th - November 4th (election day minus one week): +560.16
November 4th - November 7th (election day to most recent close): -681.47

Hmm, a slight peak on the day of the election, but dwarfed by the collapse of the preceding months. Rush is full of shit.

GM and Ford just reported huge losses for the third quarter, which ended in September. Is Rush going to blame that on Obama, too?

Well, I was going to buy a new Crown Vic, but Obama used his mind control tricks to make me buy a Yaris instead.

In other news, the sun set in the west tonight, and the Pope is rumored to still be Catholic.

Rush indeed appears more ignorant here, All serious researchers on the crash of 1929 show that the market actually was ignoring the downturn that was already taking place with farm and business failures. It was a disaster for investors that ignored what was really happening to the economy. The market IMHO tries to get ahead of the game, but it missed the mark in the past and today.

Rush is indeed full of it, however it also needs to be mentioned that the market was more into a dead cat bounce on the days prior to the election rather than “doing quite well leading up to the election”.

(And, like Robot Arm said)

Bobotheoptimist, you really are an optimist, I would not worry if it wasn’t for the fact that congress considers him more that just a radio celebrity.

http://thinkprogress.org/2007/05/16/congress-invites-rush-limbaugh-to-speak/

“public services”? I guess congress still considers Rush their “Public Broadcasting System” like Newt said once. And IIRC when congress began to be controlled by the Republicans, Rush got more invitations to address the Republicans in congress as a tank you for being one reason why they managed to gain the majority then.

And Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!

This is what it’s gonna be like every weekday for the next four years. Rush has three frickkin’ hours a day to fill with his particular brand of bilgewater. If someone’s dog poops in neighbor’s yard somewhere, Rush is going to blame it on Obama, or, failing that, ‘liberals’.

I do confess to being amazed at how the man can go on and on and on like a burst asshole about the same tired crap going on decades now, and yet somehow still make it sound fresh and vital to his cloth-eared listeners. I can only take about five minutes at a time, however. I turn his show on as I get in the car to go to lunch, and a few blocks down the road I turn it off again, click. It’s a nice feeling.
