…I can’t wait until next Thursday!
I’ve joined an indoor, co-ed recreational soccer league, which actually began 3 games ago but for a variety of reasons I wasn’t able to start playing until tonight.
I was only in the game for about 10 minutes total (45 min game) before I physically couldn’t do it anymore.
Wow what a rush! I don’t remember it being so exciting when I played in high school. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to be so physically agressive with other people. Boy what fun!
I played forward and had to stay with this one chick in orange, sheesh was she rough! But that’s alright - I can’t wait to go back!

ummm…
not much to work with here, but…
as I told my little sis when she took up soccer:
“So, it has come to this. Your idea of ‘scoring’ consists of kicking a ball into a net…”
<insert rimshot here>
I’ve only played indoor soccer once, on a boys team for one game, and boy, that is so much more fun and fast than regular field soccer. Although I was goalie and there was a penalty kick-- straight for my face but so fast that I didnt have a chance to get my hands that far. Blocked it though (heh).
How can you play football without the rain?
egg
Indoor soccer is brutal. You are always running, always changing directions. At least with full field soccer you can sometimes stand or just trot along when the ball is on the other side of the field.
Plus, any sport where you get to say “Good head.” is alright in my book.
well im playing semi-pro football now :D:D which means i get PAID to PLAY!!! hahaha
a_gherkin, I didn’t catch the whole conversation last night, but I gather from some of the comments I overheard that some of players on the other team were semi-pro. Which would explain (aside from my spectacular display of prowess [sub]yeah right[/sub]) why we lost so badly.
There are outdoor pick-up games on Sunday afternoons and I’m thinking about doing that also and the rec & parks guys are trying to put together a co-ed adult league that would play Saturday evenings against a neighboring county.
Woohoo! This is addicting!
My 5 yr old is playing in the kiddie league this fall. She said “Mommy, how come you get to play and I don’t? That’s not fair!” So I signed her up.
We’ll see if she’s tough like her ol’ ma or not.
[sub]My legs still hurt.[/sub]
well, im glad you enjoy it, and remember you will only improve if you are playing people better than yourself. im not sure whether to suggest that you play in both leagues cos you will be absolutely exhausted. just stick with it and you’ll improve.
finally just enjoy it have a good time, and dont take it too seriously. in my league, the stakes are a lot higher than what i used to play, i find that people dont enjoy it as much which sorta takes the whole point out of playing.
And the injuries, oh man. Indoor is brutal alright. Tape up those ankles in advance, you’ll need it. But you’re right, it’s an exciting, fast paced game.
Good luck!
