I’m not sure I can even see how it cuts both ways. Many liberal tenets, if I may use that phrase very broadly, involve the belief that somebody should be allowed to do something, that the government should not step in and prohibit based on a moralistic construct. Whenever I hear the word “morals” in the political context I want to run for the hills, because it almost always seems to be used by social conservatives as a way of ranting against the idea that “those people” should be allowed to use marijuana, or engage in SSM, without the state doing anything to stop it, or to punish anyone. By and large, IMO, the political left is not attempting to dictate how individuals live their lives.
In case he doesn’t get back here to see this or reply, just FYI, madmonk was an aid worker in Iraq and has most certainly seen his share of senseless deaths over there. It sounded to me like he was either projecting or quoting what the sentiments of the Iraqis might be at the travesty that just happened in our election.

Well in the sense that blue things have an effect on red things as well. I think the big stuff is more in one direction.
Little noticed news report: Doctors Without Borders is pulling out of Iraq. The security situation is too bad, too risky. Keep in mind, these aren’t wimps. These are people who have faced some of the worst situations in recent history, and faced them with courage and generosity to shame the best of us. When people like that start to bail, things are getting truly grim.
And remember all those stupid liberals, whining and bitching about how there would be urban warfare, house to house, in Baghdad? Dumb fucks. Gonna be Fallujah. The casualties amongst Iraqis will be in round numbers, estimates. We won’t know.
So just keep smiling and gloating, you guys. This belongs to you, now. We did everything we could, but we failed. You won. The chickens coming home to roost, they’re all yours. Can’t blame the wimpy liberals, Jane Fonda, or John Kerry. Oil up the spin machine, its about to get a work out.

The words “I’m” and “Walmart” lead me to believe that the rant was his and his alone, not the projected sentiments of an Iraqi national.
That being said, FWIW, I’m heartened to see that he is over in Iraq helping restore the country. But, it still doesn’t make up for his piece of shit rant.
Shayna, & Elucidator you just aren’t getting it are you?
More civilian deaths in Iraq is good news for the Republican Party. Out there they love to hear those big numbers. Makes them feel strong. What else matters?
That’s your country for you.
So even in the blue states, they’re still mostly red, in terms of geography, though the red areas barely match the blue in terms of population.
Dirt don’t vote.

Probably next week, even. Remember the article in the L.A. Times where the military was told to hold off on attacking Fallujah, to avoid giving Bush some negative headlines about American casualties before the election? Those insurgents got a multi-week vacation to rearm and recuperate…

Speaking of which, isn’t there some big and damaging report into the CIA that has been held back until after the election?
Prolly go the way of the Valerie Palme investigation?
How’s this for a rant:
I’m glad it is the sons and daughters of Bush Country who die in Iraq;
As they lay bleeding in the sand,
Thousands of miles away from their obese parents,
and their sub-standard schools,
and their shabby homes filled with tacky furniture from Walmart,
I hope they realize that they had a choice and they chose this.
Sadly, war is no respector of politics; the red states account for 596 of the 1127 dead in Iraq, a margin only slightly more than the Bush Mistake.

I’m sure it will tell us a lot about how Tenet and the CIA fucked up. That man dived on a grenade to save Bush.
