We won despite their best efforts! We won despite a seething rage that filled the other side and manifested itself in four movies (that I can think of), dozens of books, bunches of new organizations, and countless amounts of cash, cash spent on countless hours of tv, numbers of flyers, and man hours to take us down.
This election was, in many ways, a sort of “last stand” of the left in this country. They mustered everything they could and they could not take down a sitting president who has the poor press in Iraq and a murky economy.
A couple of Court retirements/deaths and our victory will be near total.
I am happy that you have made it so that my hypothetical future wife and I will not be able to visit one another on our deathbeds, and have made it so that if I am ever beaten by my domestic partner, I won’t be able to press charges. I was probably asking for it anyway.
I am happy that you are restricting the advancement of scientific knowledge, and preventing known scientific facts from being passed on to my hypothetical future children.
I am happy that you are siphoning away my generation’s Social Security money so you can kill another 200,000 Iraqis. I’m sure the Iraqis are happy too.*
I am happy that I am not able to afford any type of medical care. Whenever I look through my scratched contact lenses or spend hours locked in a panic attack, I feel an inexplicable rush of joy that cannot be contained.
God bless the Republican Party.
*I’m just kidding about that. Everyone knows Iraqis have no souls and thus can express no real emotion. I’m sure they don’t experience physical pain either, so go ahead and firebomb the crap out of them.
Take it to the pit. And realize that, even if it turns out that I am wrong about everything, I hold my views because I believe to be just, correct, and to the benefit of everyone.
And to be fair as far as the homosexuality thing goes, national polls and the gay marriage referendums tell me that you really can’t blame Republicans alone for that. I mean, considering how evenly divided the candidates for President were in the polls, if it were ONLY Republicans who had it in for gay marriage, you’d see a similar razor split in national polls. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case.
It seems the nation in general isn’t really ready to grok the whole homosexuality issue. But I think it’ll only improve, as it has been for years. I seriously do not think that we’ll go back to the Dark Ages (which remember, was only a few decades ago) in that respect.
Not to take away from the Happy Dance, but what does this refer to? Just the facts, please - I don’t want to start an argument, I’m just an ignorant type of guy.
Then I respectfully (but not really) say that your OP belonged in The Pit, if anywhere at all. If you are mystified by the “seething rage” you seem to detect from the “other side,” and do not understand how a post in which you gloat about a projected victory for “your side” would generate such rage, then I have some words for you that can only be used in The Pit. Most of them are typically used to refer to genitalia and scatological functions, but I believe they would be appropriate here.
And I would use these words because I believe them to be just, correct, and to the benefit of me.
In many states, if a person’s biological family does not want the same-sex partner to see their child or parent during a critical medical emergency, the partner is not allowed in the hospital room. Many hospitals restrict visitation of gravely ill patients to family members only, which will now (at least in OH, not sure about others) specifically exclude same-sex partners.
We busted ass to GOTV here in WV and had a BALL. I’ll never let another election go by without working at HQ!
We already knew that WV would go Bush but it felt good to see our state called for Bush 8 minutes after the polls closed. The chokehold the Democrats used to have on this state is loosening. People are starting to vote for the person rather than the party.
Still ended up with a Dem for Governor, but oh well. Win some, lose some. At any rate he’s better than Bob Wise.
My stomach has been in knots for 5 days, my gall bladder has started to act up again and sleep has been scarce.
Knowing that we’ve won makes it all worth it, though.
I wish I could have been with you Abbie. I have been jumping around here wishing I had some drunken stranger to hug. Luckily I did just find a bottle of champagne that I had forgotten about so there shall be some revelries tonight!
May he govern with wisdom and compassion, listen to others without bowing to them, and learn from his mistakes. May he rise above petty political squabbles, look past short-term gain, inspire the US people to greater heights, and bring out the hope and human goodness at the heart of that Republic. May he make the USA once again a symbol of hope in the world.
[sub]*From what I read, the outcome is still uncertain.[sub]
At the moment, based on the percent of precincts reporting in Ohio and New Mexico, the number of votes remaining to be counted is less than the margin of Bush over Kerry.
In other words, looks like Ohio and New Mexico for Bush, which would give him over 270 electoral votes and the win. Which would make me very happy.
As a bonus, it also looks like Iowa for Bush, and Daschle may lose his Senate seat.
The Democrats should check everything out. Personally, win or lose, it doesn’t bother me at all if they do. Let the chips fall where they may.
Of course, you objected to Saddam’s rape, torture and murder of those same Iraqis, and his siphoning off the “oil for food” to give kickbacks to his pals in the UN, including France, so they would let him continue to rape, torture and murder.
I understand that Republican voters are delighted with what more and more looks like a Bush victory. I also understand that they may wish to talk about this on the SDMB. But if they elect to essentially say “nyah nyah, the Democrats suck, they couldn’t even beat us when all the odds where in their favour”, then it’s only fair to place such a thread in a forum where people can respond in kind.
As they say, sometimes you need to destroy the village in order to save it. Let America live through an additional 4 years of George W. Bush, this time without the restraint from fully implementing his plans that he had to show in order to get re-elected.
