…I rode my bicycle to work. I’ve been trying to get myself to wake up an hour early and ride my bike through the heart of Boston to the commuter boat which makes a stop across the street from my work. It’s only a 5 or 6 mile ride but it’s so hard for me to get out of bed before I really need to.
It’s funny, every day on my way home driving my car I get stuck in traffic on Rt. 93 and I tell myself, “I’ve had it with this commute. Tommorow I’m riding my bike.” Then I wake up every morning and think, “Screw this, I’m not riding in.” But this morning I woke up at 5:45 (without the alarm clock) and knew I wasn’t going to fall back asleep. It took me about 10 min. to talk myself into it before taking a shower and getting the bike out of the basement.
Well, thanks for listening. I’m so proud of myself that I just had to tell someone.
I rode my bike to work too. Of course, it has an engine; but it burns less than half the gas the my Jeep does.
Were it not for the fact that my 20 mile commute to work includes either a trek on I-4 (bikes prohibited), a toll road (bikes prohibited), or some not-so-nice neighborhoods  , I would love to ride a bike to work.
Sigh. At least I keep my car tuned up and the tires properly inflated.
And Suzuki finally replaced my LEMON, er, station wagon!!! Woohoo!
Hey, VanLandry, 5 or 6 miles, you say? How long did it take?
I ask b/c I have a 7-mile commute to work that I HATE driving. I’m craving to try to bike it, but I’m terrified of being all sweaty-and-gross when I get there. What do you think?
Beefymeg,
It took me about 45 min. to make the trek. It should’ve only been 25-30 min., but I took a wrong turn and ended up in Chinatown. I took my time getting there and there was very little traffic, but I did manage to break a sweat. Although, it was pretty warm this morning. Also, I dont know where you’re from but Boston is a fairly flat city so there werent many hills to climb. Once on the boat, I got a coffee and went up to the deck and cooled off fairly quickly. I also brought some deordorant and an extra shirt just in case. Good luck.
You managed to bike through the Big Dig traffic without getting run over? I’m truly impressed…I’m lucky if I can drive through it!!!
It also carries less than a quarter the passengers/cargo that your Jeep does, too…
Ain’tcha glad you have both of them, Johnny ol’ boy?
Way to go! I’d ride my bike to work, if I could. However, I’m a painting contractor…I just don’t think I could carry a 32’ ladder on a bicycle.
