Well, I got to shake John Edwards hand this weekend...

Color me important.

I’m one of the ‘Ohio Business Leaders for Kerry-Edwards’ and got VIP placement for John Edwards rally in my town this weekend. Took the family and all. Lady Chance didn’t want to take the baby into the scrum so I stood there with four year old Kate on my shoulders for the rally.

Kate keeps getting things confused. I’ve been trying to answer her questions about the election when I can but the answers don’t make much sense to her yet.

For weeks she’s been telling me she like that candidate with the black hair and the glasses. Picture me confused. Finally I figured out that she thinks Bill Hemmer, the morning guy on CNN this Morning, is cute and thinks he’s running. I told her that he was just a newsie and not a politician.

So we see Edwards and she thinks we’re supposed to be seeing Hemmer. Then she sings out with ‘This guys a newsie!’ to me when Edwards takes the stage.

Oi!

Still, a nice rally and all. I’m surprised that, even though we’re in Ohio, Edwards came HERE (as red a county as can be…the local paper reported that Washington County voted against FDR all four times) three days before the election.

And he does have a great smile.

Afterwards, during the ‘press the flesh’ section of our day I got a strong handshake and smile.

Still, the best political theater I’ve seen in Ohio since I’ve been here.

And the expressions on the locals faces reacting to the secret service snipes on top of the local post office and other buildings was amazing. Being from DC I sort of took it in stride but they sure didn’t.
