Well If They Think I'm Watching THAT (The Practice spinoff)

Dreck dreck and more dreck! I was so looking forward to more opportunities for watching James Spader’s Alan Shore - I’ve adored Spader since his Molly Ringwald days. And the William Shatner angle seemed promising at first.

But last night - total disaster! Rebecca DeMornay was too over the top, and the rest of them were just awful! What is this, Melrose Law?

Blech!

I agree competely. It sucked. It looks like it’s just gonna turn into a campy melodrama and lose any relevence.

I’ve been taping the Practice for my Japanese pen pal (we both have a crush on James Spader). I told her about the Practice being cancelled and the spin-off. She thinks it’s because the Practice is too political and the American people don’t want to see politics on TV. I was gonna argue with her but now I’m beginning to think she may be right…

Oh, and Rebecca DeMornay’s character is supposed to be in her 30’s?

tremorviolet, I think it’s because the ratings tanked when it turned into the Bobby & Lindsay Show and then lost even more audience when they tried moving it to Monday nights (BIG failure). I know I got sick to death of everything revolving around Lindsay, who I could never stomach to begin with. Then, when they fired half the cast, there were very few interesting characters left, and several replacements that I also couldn’t stand (the replacement for the office manager, whose name escapes me, being one of them – what a boring waste of space and time on this once compelling show). It took me a while to start to enjoy watching the Alan Shore character, because he started off being nothing more than a reincarnation of Richard Fish (the David Kelly character from Ally McBeal). The new D.A. (or is he an assistant D.A.?) is just an idiot, the romance between Eugene and Jamie went nowhere and was boring as hell and “The Practice” didn’t really take on any interesting cases anymore. In essence, it went from being the Bobby & Lindsay Show to being the Alan Shore Show.

And yeah, now it’s just Melrose Practice. Ugh. When the producers think the only way to revive a show is by putting a bunch of jiggly T&A on it, it’s time to throw in the towel.

What’s incredible is that the show had gotten really bad, so they fired half the cast, turned the focus of the show on to this new Alan Shore character, and made it into a compelling drama for a few months–and promptly reverted to a P.O.S. again, minimizing the Shore character.

If I didn’t know better, I’d seriously think they took a dare: “Yeah? I bet you can’t totally screw up this show again.” “Oh, yeah? Watch this…”

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Jack’s Back, a yummy Spader flick from quite a while back. Featuring two different hairstyles.
