I’m going to be attending the ND state fair with mom and dad for a few days at the end of this month - apart from that, are there any must sees while we’re there?
Mom and I would be interested in outlet mall shopping (or any other good shopping for that matter), dad is sort of activities oriented so museums and things are a good bet.
I noticed they have a Zoo, which might be worth checking out.
So - does anyone have any suggestions? I want to make the most of my trip!
alice, dear: I was stationed there in the early 70s on the SAC base, and I have to tell you that there wasn’t anything to see then except trees and that probably hasn’t changed a lot.
The City Council had a slogan (They may still have it): Why Not Minot?
Me and my Flight could’ve given them a hundred reasons why not!
I don’t think the SAC base is there anymore, but the townies sure hated us (to the point where we all bought long-hair wigs when we went to hear a concert…)
My uncle was at the SAC base about the same time you were, Quasi. I wonder if you knew him. (For that matter, maybe you are my uncle.)
To hear him talk about it, there’s not a whole lot to recommend the place. At least you’ll be there in the summer, so probably less chance of frostbite.
According to my husband, who was stationed there 4 years, 1 month, 23 days, 12 hours and 15 minutes (not that he was counting ), the only good thing to see in Minot is the “Welcome to Minot” sign in your rear-view mirror as you drive out of town.
And the Peace Garden on the Canadian border.
Sorry, can’t be more help, he’s wandering around the house now, mumbling something about spending a year of his life trapped in a missile silo.
