So… I’m leafing through the Circuit City flyer this morning and I see that this nifty little beast is on sale. I’ve got the 250 gig version of this drive. It’s a great drive and is entertaining too, with the lightshow and clear case. It really is a blast to look at, especially in the dark.
I rouse myself later in the day before the store closes and get in the door 2 minutes before closing. My intent was to get just one for myself and as I go to get it from the shelf I see that the price is listed as 159.95 - 90 = 69.95 *not* 249.00 - 90 = $ 159.95 like the flyer and the online ad say!! WTF?! That’s a no foolin around ass kicking deal on these units, and it’s probably less than cost.
I pluck the two on the shelf and buy them using two different credit cards and two addresses (corporate office and home) so I can use both rebates (typically they are one to an address). “Wow!” I thought “I can flip these on Ebay for $ 170 each!!” as I had sold two of the identical non-clear, non-lighted versions in the past month for this amount. Maybe more since these are so cool!!
After I got home and popped on eBay to see what they were selling for it became apparent that maybe I was the only person in my neck of the woods to stumble on this deal, but I sure as hell wasn’t the only person in the US that did. There were at least 15 happy little rising suns indicating newly listed deals for the identical item from 15 other sellers that got the same bright idea. Now eveyone will be whoring these lovely (and previously quite expensive) drives down to the lowest price to get rid of them.
I’d sit on it until the other auctions are completed, then put it up. You might be surprised. or else put it up with a buy it now to recoup your costs, and chalk it up to a lesson learned. Or else keep it for yourself.
Yea, sit on em for a while. You never know. I just listed a bunch of stuff in Amazon’s Marketplace. About half of it didn’t sell the last time I had a purge and the rest is new stuff. The old stuff is selling like hotcakes!
Went back today to see if I could score another one. CC corrected the pricing mistake in the system and the cash register database, and jacked the price back up to 249- 90 rebate= 159 net. There was one left, and because I had the shelf merchandise tag in hand showing the 159 - 90 offered discount, they gave me the 159 - 90 price on the last one also, after I pointed out the shelf tag price. The asst. mgr. was very surprised at the price and took the tag back to show the mgr.
I’m stunned no one scooped me on the last unit. This is a very nice external drive. Per the other suggestions I’ll just sit on them awhile. At 70 each for a drive that retails around 249.00 I’ll plunk them on eBay after the current rush is over. I should be able to get around $140- $150 for them if history is a guide.
When I read the title, I thought maybe you found yourself with a bunch of Governator Ale.
As of 4/1/04 the highest bids on ebay were in the $50.00 range for a single 22oz. bottle. Soon, retail beer/wine buyers across two states were shaking down sales reps for as many of the last cases as they could get.
