Well, I've applied to buy a dog...

Would you like my 8 year old son to help out with the name? He just named his newly acquired stray kitten…“Gary”

Stranger than that, he calls himself “Max”…his name is Dave. I guess the bunk beds weren’t a good idea after all…

“Edgar”. Edgar was one of the BEST bichon clients we had at the grooming shop I worked for. (When he went home, they called him “Lance,” 'cause he looked like a whole new dog!) He was the sweetest thing!!

Do you watch “The West Wing”? If so, you might use “Pierre Escargoaway” (TWoP’s favorite name for Zoe’s snooty boyfriend) as his registered name, and call him whatever you want.

Ok, I just spoke to the lady. She seemed tentatively approving.

She has a bitch that has just been mated and is due in May. I am to contact her again then.

When choosing a name, remember that since this is a bichon, you will be saying its name in a twee little baby snookums voice.

As in:

"Ooh you cute widdle Eugene. Did snookums go wee wee on the carpet again? Does Eugene want a num-num?"

My sister’s bichon-poodle mix (and the most fantasic dog in the word) is named Kirby, as he is one hell of a vaccum cleaner for anything edible.

Personally I’ve favoring “Ino” for the simplicity of it.

(For those that don’t know, Ino is the Japanese word for dog.)

So, it’s going to be a boy dog? I’m just curious because all those names are boys’ and the only names I can come up with are for girls.

I like Ino out of those, though.

Glad to hear that you have a selective breeder. Contrary to an above post, breeders are not against you breeding a dog. Otherwise, why sell you a bitch at all? That is just not true (at least in my experience).

Breeders also look at your “dog history”- have you ever raised a dog from a puppy, or have you only had adult dogs? How old were you the last time you raised a puppy? What breeds of dogs have you owned previously? Can you handle any large vet bills? Do you have a relationship with a vet already? How many people are in your home, and how many are children? What ages?

The last thing a breeder wants is to have to take a dog back because the buyer’s situation wasn’t appropriate. With some breeds, returned dogs are much harder to place because they emotionally attach very strongly to the first owner.

Good luck on your application, and have fun!

Yah - I’ve never raised a dog from a puppy - she was a bit tentative about that.

But how the heck are you supposed to start if you never get a dog, right?

Ah yes! The bunnies do put a new spin on things! A new dog is so much like a baby. May is not that far away, I’d start getting ready now! I did NO preparation on my home and ended up with almost $10,000 in puppy damage…and she’s still alive! I don’t know if I could ever handle another puppy. Man we went through some trying times. Worth it though, she turned into a great dog! Good luck on your new little bundle of fur!

Congrats on finding a breeder that cares! Personally if she was just interested in your money, that would send up the red flags.

I was discussing Pharoah hounds with a breeder at a dog show once. I got the complete once over from her, and the more she dug at my dog experience, the more I liked her. Expect the third degree from any breeder that cares. They want their pups in the best possible homes.

I have nothing against GOOD breeders who love their dogs. Most do help out with rescues that specialize in their breed, and another good sign is a breeder who is willing to take back the dog in case something goes wrong. A GReeder won’t do this.

Also, a good breeder will be there for you for the life of your dog. It’s not just a 5 minute swap of money for pup, but she should be there for you for the next 10+ years you have your pooch.

I hope you get your dog. They’re a little too small for my taste, but I can just imagine that pup playing with some bunnies, and that sounds too cute for words.

My bunnies are trembling in anticipation.

Well, actually they mostly just stared at me and twitched their noses, but I’m sure they were trembling on the inside. :stuck_out_tongue:
