I’ve been wanting to be an actress since I was four and for the past year or so, I signed up for this thing where they send casting notices/audition information. A week ago, I received one and they’re holding auditions for a joint US-Canada TV show called “Honouring Our Ancestors” and it’s one of those geneological mysteries/historical shows. They’re holding auditions in February in Toronto, where I live. So, I spent a great deal thinking about it because first of all, my wonderful parents keep reminding me that I’m Korean and they think casting directors won’t be willing to take Asian/Oriental actors and secondly, I’m afraid that if I DO get chosen, filming will suck up my school time and money. But, I thought, “WTF? It doesn’t hurt to try…” So I filled out the preliminary application form and sent it in. They said that they’ll reply back to those who they want to see for an audition on January 30th and I’m nervous as hell. January 30th seems so close, yet so far.
Pray for me, will you? Gulps Well, even if I don’t make it, I’ll just have to move on.
I know almost nothing about time/money committments, but I would the prominence of non-caucasian people in early Canadian history (and 19th century American, certainly) would give rise to at least a few spots for Asian* individuals such a yourself.
*I say Asian because I would think those spots would similarly be up for those of Chinese, Korean, Laotian, Sri Lankan, Taiwanese, etc. descent.
Yes, if I was someone directly related to the production of the show, I’d add a lot of people of many different nationalities to add variety to the show. And North America is so culturally diverse anyways, so it wouldn’t really make sense to not add non-caucasian characters in a show like this one.
