Well known nineteenth century scientist who lost his memory

This is what I know of him.

It was a male.
He was a prominent scientist.
His memory totally failed when he was still middle aged (he’d start a sentence and not know how to end it). I think his wife had to take care of him.

I believe he was from an English speaking country like England, and I think he worked in physics. I also think he had a short bit about him in the cosmos remake that was on TV a few years ago.

Does Anyone know? I thought it was James clerk maxwell but I’m not seeing anything about him losing his memory.

If anyone knows who I’m talking about, did anyone figure out why he lost his memory?

Faraday seems an obvious candidate, though I haven’t seen the Cosmos remake, so I’ve no idea if he’s referenced therein.

This old 1974 medical paper goes through the evidence and, without being too definite, suggests arteriosclerosis as an explanation.

My offhand impression/memory is that the more recent literature on Faraday’s decline amongst historians of science tends to go with the obvious suggestion of some form of (early onset, in more recent years) Alzheimer’s.
