Well, my grandmother dropped acid, and freaked out and hijacked a schoolbus full of…penguins, so it’s kind of a family crisis…
otherwise known as “what are your “traditional” Christmas movies?”
personally, i tend to go for the more obscure, offbeat movies, not a big fan of the generic stale christmas specials
my “traditional” Christmas movies are;
Better Off Dead (it’s got…rasins in it, you like rasins… wait a minute, this is pure snow, it’s EVERYWHERE, do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?..go that way, really fast, if something gets in your way, turn)
The Nightmare Before Christmas, this one’s a very versatile film as it’s both a Haloween and Christmas film
There is something about the scene where Billy Bob Thornton beats the hell out of a a eleven or twelve year old that never fails to cause my heart to swell with the joy of the holiday season :p.
Miracle on 34th Street – the Christmas tradition of my youth.
Alastair Sim in Scrooge (the original title, though it’s usually called A Christmas Carol now). A Muppet Christmas Carol (I prefer Sim, but my daughter and wife have to watch this one). Olive the Other Reindeer. – The best TV Christmas show of the past 30 years. So-Called Angels – just the script, alas, but this was the single best Christmas episode of any TV show ever (and episode of My So-Called Life
If it weren’t already Christmas day I’d go out and get those. Lion in Winter is definitely the perfect family gathering movie. And I could do with some Blackadder right about now.
Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Carol (with George C. Scott)
A bunch of the usual (34th, Life, White Xmas, etc)
And three that never seem to get mentioned. I pimp these three films every year on this board because they are exceptional (although nobody seems to check them out):
A Christmas Memory (written by Truman Capote) A Child’s Christmas in Wales (with Denholm Elliot), based on the work of Dylan Thomas. A Midnight Clear (with a lot of young actors that are instantly recognizable today)
The third in that group is a powerful film that won critical praise, but was a box-office meh.
