PETA is for college grads with shite degrees and rich parents who will pay for their “activism”. They are a terrible and embarassing organization. If you want to help prevent animal abuse, look into the Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty to Animals. They are everything that PETA is not.
How much of PETA’s budget is spent on advertising vs. actual animal help anyway?
Indeed. But not too surprising given that, of the 1,000,000 Jews sent to Treblinka, fewer than 100, possibly fewer than 50, survived. Then again, by PETA standards, the Jews had it better than the animals. At least some Jews survived.
Godwin’s Law on a record-setting scale. Carnivores win.
—I disagree. I think it is precisely for that reason that people find PETA’s actions so intolerable. Their philosophy is based on the foulest and most vapid kind of extremism, with no tolerance for rational thought or dissent. It’s dogma. And that annoys the fuck out of people.—
They believe animals have just as much a moral right not to be tortured and killed as do humans. I may not agree, you may not agree, but if you were to really believe that, I can see why the analougy to the Holocaust is not so strange after all. I don’t make fun of pro-life people or think they are insane just because they call abortions a “holocaust.” I understand that this comparison is based on a premise I don’t share, but would make perfect sense if I did share it.
Apos, their philosophy is within reason, but their methods aren’t. And, as has been shown in this thread, emotions over their methods have driven out any rational discussion of their philosophy.
I don’t think too many people are stupid. It’s just hard for me to think someone is really not intelligent. But unless they are a secret wing of the Beef Council, they must be extremely stupid when it comes to public relations of any form. Which is astoundingly stupid for a political action group.
Personally, I’m rather pissed about their choice of Holocaust picture for this waste of space.
Can PETA just go away now? Please?
I just can’t imagine what went to their heads when they chose to display, side by side, pictures of Jewish children and PIGLETS. And what gets me the most is that they except to gain Jewish support after that.
No, wait. They’re just trolling. It’s a big fuckin’ trolling project, except without the Internet.
Of course I know this. And I have the utmost respect for their beliefs, though I don’t personally share them. Likewise, I respect the vegetarians who choose not to eat meat. It’s when belief becomes rabid, unthinking fanaticism that I have a problem.
The thing that should be scary is that these aren’t just political shock campaigns. There are people - it would be impossible to say how few or how many - in that organization that honestly believe these things.
I feel it’s only a matter of time before we hear about someone in PETA who decides one day that People. Must. Pay. for their crimes against animals, and takes an MAK-90 into a Tyson Chicken processor, and ends up on the nightly news, complete with the tagline “…before turning the gun on himself.”
I wonder where it ends? Is there anything from a shock value standpoint that is too extreme for PETA? Have they dipped their toe into hardcore child snuff porn yet in their ads? Because sometimes it appears that’s likely the only thing I haven’t seen them do…
Are you insane!?! Do you want to give them ideas?
Re the hijack: I would posit that while notorious is better than obscure, more notorious is not better than notorious. We’ve all heard PETA’s schtick. They can’t get any more people’s attention. All they can do is scare people away.
Is PETA seriously not aware of their public image?
I don’t think they care about their public image. Extremist organizations usually don’t try to win any popularity contests.
Then really, what’s the point? To rant simply for the sake of ranting? I guess I just don’t understand the extremist mindset. I don’t understand how they can possibly believe that revulsing a large percentage of the population is going to do their cause any good. Certainly such tactics don’t make me any more likely to see their point of view, quite the opposite, in fact.
Hell, it’s enough to make me want to eat a vegetarian.
preferably a petite vegetarian with perky breasts…
It’s a matter of perspective, which, I fear, PETA has none.
PETA was also the group that decried the use of donkeys as suicide bombers. Don’t worry about the humans that could be killed, we must concentrate all our efforts on saving the donkeys.
That the person killing the doctor, and also the people conspiring with the pereson killing the doctor, are murderers. You know, like PETA says those who eat meat are. In other words: PETA’s full of it.
Ah Peta; my favorite bunch of kooks.
I love animals to, I like the discover channel shows, I also like venison. Deal with it. It’s called the food chain.
Last time I witnessed PETA’s handiwork, they were trying to stop the culling of excess Deer by putting orange hunting vests on them. Several deer with said vests got tangled in the trees and got injured as a result.
It would seem every stunt they pull is dumber than the last.
Vegetarians say vegetarians taste better. Well, I’d like to dispute that. I have found no difference in the frequency of good or bad taste between vegetarians and omnivores. And I’ve tasted plenty of each. In both categories, some tasted bad (which is one of the few things I simply cannot tolerate) and some tasted good.
I prefer tasting omnivores only because we have tastier meals together and they tend to be less preachy and self-righteous (which I can tolerate only slightly more than tasting bad).
