I mask everytime I’m out in public. I’m used to it.
It’s for my own safety, mainly. (I do like hiding my face, tho’) I’m germaphobic. Always have been.
I don’t give a crap what anyone says or thinks.
I’m doing it.
When the pandemic hit, I got to tell my family “I told you so”.
ETA…I like the pandemic taught folks a bit about germ spreading. You do not have to touch everything you see, after touching your face 10,000 times. You can use hand sanitizer easily, where ever you are. Carry your own. Because;
Speaking directly to businesses: Refill your sanitizer dispensers. Please!!
I liked this thread and thought I’d give the zombie CPR. My little work site’s about to get temps about 30 degrees hotter than usual next week. I drink about a few dozen liters of homemade electrolytes, set up a lot of portable fans in a cooling zone and various other tips. How do you deal with the unseasonable heat where you live?
If i have to be outdoors, I find loose cotton Hawaiian shirts are surprisingly comfortable in the heat. And i wear shorts. And i drink a ton of water. If i exercise (or otherwise sweat a lot) i add some salt to my diet. V8 juice is good, or just salting my food.
Kumquats are nice. I have eaten them out of
hand only a few times but know their taste was delightful. I’ve seen jars of kumquat marmalade so would make that. A chutney could be fun for me too.
I liked @puzzlegal’s tips and @SuntanLotion’s love of the heat. I like working outside but can tell wstarting to head toward some heat illness. Thanks so much for what you mentioned here.
Loquats sound great! They sound like they taste great, even after they’ve fallen to ground a few days. They seem to have big pits so a compost bucket and shovel would prove handy to me.
Loose, light colored, cotton, long sleeves and long pants — worn soaking wet when it’s really hot and I’m working outside.
Have had really limited success convincing most people that that’s cooler than sleeveless shirts and shorts exposing lots of bare skin to the sun; but it is. Inside out of the sun, as much bare skin as possible is cooler.
My Granny always wore, what we thought were too many clothes. Summertime and she’d have a wide skirt, of various fabrics, usually light colored and light weight. With a slip, her under pants(big pink things with longer legs than boy shorts) 2 or 3 light weight shirts.
When asked she’d say it was cooler than the hot sun on your skin.
I once traveled with a woman who had spent two years in Saudi Arabia. She said people wore loose flowing clothes when they had to go outdoors, and would “fluff them up” to trap as much cool, air conditioned air, as possible, right before heading out.
Of course, that was for short trips outdoors, but all the traditional garb there covers people (both men and women) pretty thoroughly.
I like your comments re: wearing long sleeves. I’ve got a sun shirt that wear so comfortably. That does give me an alternative to putting on sunscreen all the time.
