well, WE thought it was funny

We live in Michigan. Snookie’s sister lives in MD. Sister’s best friend lives in (I think) N. Carolina. Sister wanted our help in playing a joke on friend. Friend was going out of town for a week. We had her phone number.

So, we had my son call all excited “HI! Janet had the baby! She had the baby! it’s a boy! I gotta go!” I called 3 times, as Joan from Pampered Chef, “I’ll be there first thing Saturday morning - is 6 too early? to set up. Now, you did say 40 people, I couldn’t get the one set of matching chairs and tables, so we’ll have to make do…” Next call “great news, got the chairs after all. See ya at 6~” Next call "Just wanted to touch base again with you - that was a total of 60 people, you assured me there was plenty of parking, I’m to bring the chairs and tables, you’re bringing everything else, and we’re meeting at your house at 6 am on Saturday " (She was arriving late Friday)

And Snookie’s part was " I’m calling her right now um, this is, um Phillip from Blockbuster? you know the one on (road near her house)? and we’re calling because you have some movies that are overdue? and um, we’d like them back please? because, um, other people um, would like to rent them? They were Adam Sandler in Little Nicky, Adam Sandler in the Waterboy , Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore and Teenagers gone wild . Um we;re open until 10, so if you could bring them back, we’d really um appreciate it. Um that’s 10 pm in the evening"

“Phillip” called a few more times, requesting the tapes, especially the Adam Sandler ones, giving directions to the store in case she didn’t remember where it was and telling her that if the tape was stuck, just bring in the whole VCR and they’d get it out.

We didn’t hear anything about it until recently, when Friend visited Sister. So, 'Phillip" made another call to Friend while she was at sister’s house.

“Um, yea, this is, um Phillip? From um, Blockbusters? Um I had to call you here 'cause you weren’t at home”.

Well, we really, really thought she **had ** to have figured out it’s a joke. I mean - really. tapes she hadn’t rented, plus a party she hadn’t booked, plus people she didn’t know having a baby? and now, Blockbuster’s going to know where she is and call her there???

“I can’t believe that you’d call long distance to ask me again about those stupid tapes!” “Phillip” replied “I’m dedicated to my job”.

Anyhow, when it became clear that she really didn’t realize it was a joke, Snookie’s sister gave his last name and she finally got it.

Seems that when she got back and got these messages, she:

  1. Asked everyone at church “do you know anyone named Janet that just had a baby???”

  2. Called her Pampered Chef rep “no, no, I"m not having a party, I just placed an order…”

  3. Called the Blockbusters to yell at them for PHillips’ actions.

I really think that when Blockbusters told her they had no PHillip, they had no record of her having overdue movies (let alone Adam Sandler ones), and no record of having called her for any reason, that she should have figured it as a joke.

She’s apparently forgiven the Sister, and is now visiting her entire ‘paybacks’ onto Snookie. I think that’s fair.

yeah hilarious
