Well, what DOES happen in the year 2525?

You know the song:
“In the year 2525, IF man is still alive, IF woman can survive, they may find…”

Huh?
they may find…” well, WHAT?
They don’t complete the sentence, dammit!

They just strum a few chords, and start singing about the eras that come later:
In 3535, everything we do and say is in the pill we took today,
In 4545, we have no teeth and no eyes
In 5555, we have no arms or legs
In 6565, we get test tube babies(presumably with no teeth, eyes, arms,or legs)
In 7510, God may come by then. (Because “then” rhymes with “10” )
In 8510, God starts all over again (Because “again” rhymes with “10”) …Again
In 9595, The earth’s resources have been ruined, so it kinda sucks for mankind. But at least we’re back to multiples of 5, so there’s hope for some kind of symmetry and pattern to existence.
Okay, I get it…the future easy to predict, a thousand years at a time. But only starting after 3535…
But we are still left with a terrible dilemma: What do they find in 2525?
And don’t Zagger and Evens know basic grammar?–a phrase beginning with “if” is a conditional clause, not a full sentence. It needs to be completed.

Well, whaddya know? I have always thought the lyric was “…they may fight.” Meaning some things never change.

“They may find” (what??) makes no sense. I’ll stick with mine, thank you.

That man is still alive and that woman can survive. They have to, for the rest of the song to occur.

Songwriters have a certain leeway in that regard.

They may find…the subsequent statements in the song to come to pass, ie. if man/womankind makes it to that point, we’ll probably manage to keep on for a while longer still. But at what cost? AT WHAT COST?!

EDIT: paraphrased, “if man is still alive in 2525, he may find that in 3535 he will be programmed by pills, in 4545 the human body itself begins to no longer be needed, in 5555 the physical transformations have continued” etc. etc.

I think the grammatical question is if “They may find” is a complete clause/sentence on it’s own, or if it needs an object for find. It’s a bit nonstandard, but I think it can be complete without one.

Sort of like the case:
“Did you find your lost cell phone or buy a new one?”
“I found”

A bit awkward, but personally I wouldn’t say grammatically incorrect.

In the year 2525 we can hope that this godawful song is totally forgotten. One of the worst pieces of pretentious dreck to come out of that era.

I always thought they were saying they may FLY… As a kid I pictured people flying around with bird wings.

Detroit Lions win their first Super Bowl? They took it out when they realized nobody would believe it.

Why wait until then? It’s obviously too late for this year, but I hope it’s forgotten in 2016!

I don’t like the song, but I liked the TV show sort of named after it. (Cleopatra 2525)

What happened to that show? I’ve never seen it again since it’s first run. It was just an excuse for hot chicks to run around, which should be a sustainable TV show. They used to go flying up and down an elevator shaft or something. I’m not sure, but I think some of the episodes had a plot.

According to Mystery Science Theater 3000 the apes (and brain guys) have taken over and Dr. Forrester’s mother is the lawgiver!

I think it had a one-season arc and ended.

Hey, it worked for Baywatch.

Cubs win! Cubs win!

Well, yeah, otherwise they’d’ve had to rename it.
