It should only be doing that if you’re quoting the last post (the one that’s immediately above your reply).
Too much extra typing. I just delete the period from the end of the final sentence.

What if the quote is a question?
I try to remove something when I can. Used to remove any trailing smilies, but that doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Agree on all three points.
“like” !!!
My big issue is that some in-line link previews look like ads (at least in Sam’s Simple theme). If you embed in your post a link to a web article, it shows up as a big box with a giant blue headline, typically an image, and about a paragraph of text. It overwhelms the actual post. I hate it!

ETA: I’m using Dope Dark, and it’s the same. I agree with your dislike.

Exactly! (Thanks for testing). My phone screen is now overwhelmed by some CNN cat crap.
Storing uploaded images (or other data), as opposed to mere linking, costs $$$. However, storing hundreds or even thousands of GB is no longer a big deal these days.

But images like that are turned on now. Simply put the URL on a line by itself.
really well said, Jenny!
And I’ll add Where would Cecil be without Slug’s illustrations?
In a better place - I never liked Slug’s illustrations and always did my best to avoid looking at them.
I realize, however, that my opinion may be in the minority.
So… we have the worst of both worlds? People can clutter the screen with large images, but they CAN’T put them here directly? If we want to show our own image (my own photograph of a garden plant or pet) rather than some image that’s already posted on-line, we need to jump through hoops to do it. But posting on-line memes so they are visible to all is easy?
Stronger vote to allow posting in-line images. I really don’t want to have to mess with a third party just to show you something.
Shhhh… y’all let Tuba sleep. She literally stayed up all night-before-last doing stuff for us.
Shhhh…
whispers Hey, thanks for all the suggestions/hints/tips/etc. I’ve been doing what you suggest and things are coming along nicely*/whispers*

Welcome! Glad it’s working for you.

Heh. My bad. I love the little buggers, even if it makes me less likely to get a date!
Having to follow a link to an outside site to see a relevant photo is a pain in the ass for the READER. Extra tabs, extra clicks, glitches…
I vote yes to inline images.
Uploading to a photo storage site, then linking here is a hassle.
In-line pic posting can be controlled by making abuse a warn-able offense. A sticky can be affixed atop each forum saying something like, “you risk getting warned/banned if you post copyrighted images, furry porn, or images of ugly cats.”
Unfortunately, most of the cats I see posted here so far are rather homely. But, look at my cat, Bentley! He’s a fine looking feline. It would be cruel for me not to post photos of him.
My other cat, Tibby, has been hitting the Little Friskies too hard lately, so he’s on a diet until he’s photo-ready.
That’s a very cute cat! One of ours looks very similar – though our gray cat is the rotund one

Looking very dapper, Bentley!

Thanks! My daughter and I adopted him from the cat rescue we volunteer at. Later, the vet told us he’s a Korat (look like a Russian Blue, but badder than Siamese!).
Tibby was rescued from the talons of an owl when he was a kitten. He was airborne for a while. Still has a bent ear and a scar on his head from the ordeal.
