I loved Jon Stewart’s somewhat-poor impression of President Bush, especially after Hurricane Katrina when Bush visited an oil rig hit by the hurricane: “Riggy! What have they done to you, Riggy?”
What comes first to mind is a Daily Show segment from maybe 2003ish… first they showed a bunch of administration talking heads using the phrase “9/11 changed the equation”. Over and over again, “changed the equation”.
So then Jon Stewart got out a little chalkboard and a piece of chalk, as if he were about to write some math. “The new equation is… 9/11, plus anything we say, equals SHUT THE FUCK UP”.
It’s a terrible impression that really doesn’t sound anything like Bush, and yet somehow, Stewart actually did capture something about the petty meanness of the administration that gets overlooked.
Can’t believe I didn’t think of that right away. A great, great moment in comedy history.
Man, I can’t believe it took 16 posts for this one. This was the watershed moment, when it suddenly became ok to criticize Bush openly in the media. Stephen Colbert proved once and for all he truly does have balls by openly mocking Bush to his face, with some really incisive vicious shit too. I hardly ever watch his show, but I will always love him for that.
IMO, this is the ultimate answer to this thread. Nothing else is even noteworthy next to it.
