Were there any survivors that were in the towers when they collapsed?

Hello Everyone,

I’m not trying to bring up another conspiracy thread about 9/11, just looking for an answer. And yes, I know how Google works but my daughter asked me this question and I thought it would be a great time to show her how to get answers here on SD.

So, did a time that was inside the towers when they fell survive? What floor were they on and how serious were their injuries?

16 people survived the towers collapses. They were in Stairwell B of the north tower, between floors 1 and 22.

Details here.

I swear, what would a post from me be like without a typo. Mods, please fix title for me. It should read towers, but auto correct stabbed me in the back once again.

Thanks

Note that the WTC towers differed from our usual impression of hi-rise construction - the stairwells and elevator shafts were made from thicker drywall, not concrete.

(You can find one survivor’s description of prying open express elevator doors and using the metal part of a window-washing tool to cut through the gyproc drywall and eventually crawl into a bathroom; and still made it out before the towers collapsed.)

It appears the requirement was for fireproofing and proper smoke blocking, rather than construction strength. The strength was in the metal columns and beams, which wouldn’t melt or soften unless the building was turned into a blast furnace full of jet fuel and something knocked the asbestos insulation off exposing the beams. What were the odds of that?

Fixed towers -> tourers caused by auto carrot. :stuck_out_tongue:

ETA: took out the extra apostrophe too (were -> we’re)

Now that the title’s been fixed, is there any chance of the OP explaining what this list of words means?

Port Authority police officers John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno survived. The 2006 film World Trade Center detailed their ordeal, with the men being played by Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena.
