They left this ambiguous. CJ didn’t seem to be in big trouble with her boss, but on the other hand they indicated she was getting a firestorm of new hate mail from Saudis. If the press didn’t report it, then why a new flurry of hate mail? If the press did report it, then wouldn’t it have been a big issue with her and POTUS (Press Sec’y openly criticizes US ally’s domestic policy?) Fair or not the Press Sec’y isn’t really allowed to have public personal opinions.

Don’t know how plausible this is, but someone suggested that Sam and Toby (remember, she did give them a chance to stop her) allowed C.J. to make those comments because they wanted to make that statement for some reason - while still being able to pull back and say it was just the Press Secretary’s personal opinon, not the opinion of the administration, if they needed to. IIRC, before going to the briefing C.J. says to Sam and Toby, “I haven’t talked to the President…” indicating that since she hasn’t, no one will be able to blame her comments on Bartlet.

I’m waiting for Mark Harmon to run into Marlee Matlin…weren’t they together in some detective series in the 80s?

They starred together in the series, Reasonable Doubts from 1991 to 1993.

Toby’s goofy whenever there’s a woman in his office. Remember the poet laureat? And his ex-wife?
