Westminster Dog Show Commercials

Pedigree has been running a series of commercials designed to guilt you into adopting a rescued dog. “My name is Oliver and I’m a Good Dog. And I just want to go home.” “I know how to sit. I know how to fetch. I know how to shake hands. What I don’t know is why I ended up here. And I want to go home.” Damned ads are making me cry. And I already have 4 rescued dogs and 4 rescued cats. I don’t need any more animals.

Those could be my dogs.

Oh, god. I haven’t seen the commercials, but just reading that description made me cry. I don’t know what it is about rescue dogs that completely gets to me. I can see starving children (on TV) and not be affected at all, but a starving dog? Kills me.

Cute doggies!

I saw those Pedigree commercials during the Puppy Bowl. They did make me cry. I have a rescue dog (literally – I found him wandering the neighborhood), and all my other dogs have been rescued from shelters.

Good commercials – very effective.

Well to be fair the dogs didn’t seem to be starving. They were in shelters. So at least they were getting fed. But. Dogs do not live by kibble alone. They are social creatures. They don’t belong in cages, all by themselves. They need someone to roll over for and shake hands with. And tell them they are a good dog (sniff). Just what any person (including the four footed furry people) deserves.

Dog’s still in NH, think I’ll go pet my cat.

Yep - these dogs had the sad, hopeful look that shelter dogs have. Some pressed up against the cages wagging their tails, some sitting back and watching, but all needing homes.

Yeah - there’s one in particular - towards the end a whitish shortharied face with his muzzle kinda between the fence links. Has that happy, hopeful look in its eyes. So sweet.

The ad I got a kick out of was - I think - for dog food. Had a serious of dogs chasing and fetching balls, sticks, etc. And said, “You throw it, I fetch it. That’s the deal!” Made my whole family laugh.
