Westwood, West L.A., Brentwood Dopers: Street closures due to demonstrations

Due to World Can’t Wait* demonstrations, Veteran may be closed between Ohio and Wilshire, and Wilshire is or may be closed from Glendon to Sepulveda.

Have fun driving home, kids!

Forgot to explain:

World Can’t Wait is a New York based organization that wants Bush out of office.

I lived on Clarington at Palms. With this demonstration, I wish I still did.

Well, I live at Ohio and Barrington, and wish I didn’t. I’m wondering how long it’ll take me to get home. And don’t these people realize that if Bush goes, we’ll end up with Cheney as President?

Yah! Fight the Power!

Lucky! You’re closer to SMO than I was. (Although I did live under the traffic pattern, which was moderately neat – especially when a couple of Long EZs would fly information.) One thing I miss that disappeared when I was still there was Orleans restaurant on National and Barrington. (Or near Barrington, anyway. I don’t quite remember.) Loved their prime rib, and the all-you-can-eat crawdads were tasty indeed!

Pssst. Get a motorcycle to deal with the traffic.

Ha ha! My traffic fu was indeed powerful tonight.

I made it from my kids’ school in Westwood (Overland and Olympic) to Souplantation in Brentwood (San Vicente and Montana) in FIFTEEN MINUTES around 5:30 PM.

West on LaGrange to Cotner, north on Cotner to Ohio, west on Ohio to Federal, north on Federal and it turns into San Vicente!

And, even more impressively, I made it back in 25 MINUTES an hour later.

South on Bundy to Idaho, east on Idaho to Westgate, south on Westgate to Mississippi, east on Mississippi to Sawtelle where the weird traffic patterns around all the Japanese restaurants make it TRIVIAL to jump ahead of everybody else on Sawtelle for a left turn onto Olympic, under the 405 to Cotner, and back east on LaGrange!

Bow down before me, West Side drivers!

In the “It’s a Small World, but I wouldn’t want to paint it” Dept, I too lived on Ohio just a few blocks from Barrington for quite a few years. Still Miss “Dem Bones”
(Now the Cafe 50’s) (Or is it still the Cafe 50’s???) Westwood, in my Yoot, was the place to spend Friday/Saturday Nights. Go catch a movie and then off to
Didi-Reese for an Ice cream sandwich, then Tower to buy a record, or perhaps just a 45. Has it ever made a comeback, or is the nightlife still on the third st. promenade?

I had a g/f who lived in Culver City when I was still in Lancaster. She gave me a mnemonic (which I didn’t need) to remember Sawtelle, a street that lead to her street. ‘Ida saw, but she didn’t tell.’

Cafe 50’s is still there. We have dinner there about once a month.

According to my friends who went to UCLA, Westwood is a pale shadow of its former self, although its not the wasteland it was a few years ago. It’s getting gentrified (as is the promenade) with stores like Urban Outfitters and Peet’s Coffee going in. All the theaters are still there though.
