WH 40k- "Blessed is the mind, too small for doubt"

Anybody on the dope play Warhammer 40k? I played a few years ago, had a Space Wolf and Dark Eldar army, got bored and shelved them. They’ve since gone up to 5th edition rules and have been re-doing armies. A new Imperial Guard codex will be released next month.

I’m putting together an Imperial Guard army themed on Starship Troopers (color scheme). It would be fun to play a tyranid player since it would remind me of the movie. Also both armies have comparable strengths (horde shooty army vs a horde melee army). Against my friend’s Necrons it would be kind of like the new Terminator movie, though he has opted to paint his robot skeletons black/metallic blue rather than chrome.

I’m also considering making them like Colonial Marines from Aliens since they also look very similar and have extremely similar weapons (flamers, shotguns, heavy bolters converted to look like SmartGuns) which would fit the alien-esque tyranid battles well also.

The game is a huge money sink but a fun hobby that combines a tabletop strategy game with model building/painting. There’s lots of conversion opportunities to customize your army in composition/paint scheme and make it really unique. By using magnets and swapping out weapons on vehicles/infantry I can save a lot of money by buying one tank which I can customize instead of 3 specialized ones that will have 2 of them being benchwarmers most games. They also get a new Valkyre gunship which can transport my infantry

Oh, yes. I have about 2500 points of Space Wolves and about 3000 points of Tau. I have some odds and ends that might end up becoming a Witch Hunter army in the future, because… S&M Nuns with Flamethrowers… cool. I’d primarily consider myself a Tau player though, I like their combined arms approach (challenging to play) as well as the contrast to the majority of the rest of the 40K aesthetic. I’ve been playing since 2nd edition with several long breaks like yourself.

I play 'nids.
And don’t be so quick to assume. I can kit them out for horde assaulty, but I can outshoot quite a bit if I kit my forces out for it. At least with the current rules… the newer version will be weird if the pre-release leaked copy I saw is accurate.

Then again, I’ll love my Hierophant even more.

Witch Hunters are pretty cool for a couple of reasons. One, they can take many other imperial armies/units as allies. It helps ‘recycle’ models so you don’t have to start from scratch just to get a new army going. Two, they have a lot of anti-psyker stuff, which is great in 5th because psykers have been making kind of a comeback. Librarians have better powers, Chaos Sorcerers have a cheesy spell called Lash of submission (lets opponent move your guys) orks have wierdboyz, and so on.

Plus the models are pretty neat. Dude crucified to a giant flamethrower spewing robot? check. Pipe organ that shoots missiles out the pipes? check. Chainsaw-wielding naked chicks? check

Ludovic does, I think, or at least he used to.

I’m a Tau Infantry guy, myself. Have about 3000 points of Fire Warriors with rifles and their Devilfish, with a few Broadsides configured as tank-busters and an Ethereal commander.
