What 80's swords and sorcery movie is this?

At the start of the film the protagonist is given to as a child to a short, ugly, mean creature who is a sword smith. He eventually escapes the creature and takes a sword that rightfully belongs to him.

Would it be “The Sword and the Sorcerer”? I saw it way back in 1982 & remembered that the very end promised us a sequel- WHICH IS NOW JUST BEING MADE! But I don’t remember much of the actual plot.

You know that what you just described is basically Wagner’s “Siegfried”, don’t ya?

It couldn’t have been “The Sword and the Sorceror” Talon was never in thrall to a creature, he was a prince whose family had been driven from their kingdom by a bad guy in league with a resurrected wizard. At the end of the film he could have had the kingdom back but let the other guy take it. Said other guy was the son of the last chief minister of the kingdom, and his sister was the gal who Talon made a “bargain” with. Both were well liked by the people of the country.

I could go on, but I saw the movie in the theaters only, what, five times? I’d won a special ticket from our local newspaper. They ran a contest on picking Academy Award winners and I took first place. The pass let me into all the theaters in town for a year. And I could take someone with me!

Well, I only saw it once so I bow to your expertise! Cool story about the Year-long ticket!

On IMDB, I see The Beastmaster came out the same year. I’m not even sure I saw that. Did it have anything to do with him being born out of some sort of (I am NOT joking) enchanted cow?

No, that wasn’t it. The creature look somewhat like those banking goblins in the Harry Potter movies. There was a later scene at a bar that was reminiscent of the cantina scene from Star Wars. I wish I could remember more about it, it’s driving me nuts.

I know what movie you’re talking about.

I also don’t remember the name.

some googling reveals Quest for the Mighty Sword (1989) as a likely candidate.

Yes. That question should not be left unanswered.

That’s it! I thank you sir.

Yes. There were two or three witches who brought a cow into his parents’ bedchamber and magically transferred him out of his mother’s womb into the cow’s.

But you do remember there being tits in it, right?

I wonder if there will be tits in the sequel. As sequels go, there ought to be more and better tits, but alas, these are different times. :frowning:

Dear God, I was almost hoping I was misrembering though my imagination is nowhere that deranged!

I just went to IMDB and sure enough-

“Once upon a time a god gave a mighty sword to the king of Aquiles to bring justice to his people. Now he wants it back - but the king rather gives his life than the sword. Goddess Dehamira, who spoke for him, is being taken all her privileges and banned in a circle of fire, until a human arrives who’s strong enough to free her. When prince Ator becomes 18, he gets the sword from the mean sorcerer gnome Grindl, to free Dehamira and his people. On his journey he has to fight against dragons and other fantastic figures.”

Ripoff of Wagner’s Siegfried for sure!

Oh yeah, there were tits indeed!

Who’da thought that a 21st century remake of THE WICKER MAN would be titless!?!

Now, now…Nicholas Cage is enough of a tit to make up for all that, I’d think.

The fact that the main character of that movie is named Ator made me hope it was some sort of prequel to Cave Dwellers. Alas, not only is there no Miles O’Keefe in that picture, there’s not even any Yards O’Keefe…

According to imdb, it was a prequel. Although it doesn’t have Miles O’Keefe, it was written and directed by Joe D’Amato, who did two of the first three Ator movies.
