Maybe they want to maintain appeal from TFG’s minions, who will vote for them as long as they toe the line. You can hear it in Carlson’s text confession. Something like “He said what!? Crap! Now I gotta embrace that looney stuff or else his supporters won’t like me/vote for me. Dammit!”.
Nunes, tho, fits into your narrative - he definitely gave up something to hitch his wagon to the dumpster fire, and it appears he hoped to profit from that decision in some way - he is not holding office and has no need to appeal to voters any more.

Seriously it was a typo and I was too lazy to look up the correct substitute name for that revolting turd. I personally prefer “Disgraced Former Politician, Serial Traitor, and Future Convicted Felon” but DFPSTaFCF is hard to pronounce and long to type. 
That it looks like the words “dipshit” and “distaff” had a drunken T-bone in an intersection does give it a certain panache though. It’s no “covfefe”, but it’s trying.
Well, there was the one lawyer who reputedly got a huge upfront retainer, did a bit of actually reputable work which got ignored by his client, and thereafter faded into the background, if I recall correctly.

Meanwhile DWAC stock price is continuing a steady decline, down 17% in the last month to $12.15, getting awfully close to its cash out price of around $10.40 a share (which is what everyone gets if the company is simply desolved).

According to report from the New York Times, two different investigations are tying up the merger between Digital World Acquisition Corp. and Trump Media & Technology Group with $300 million at stake.
As the Times reports, “That deal has been waylaid by two intensifying federal investigations. One is focused on whether preliminary merger discussions between Digital World and Trump Media violated federal securities laws. The other investigation is looking at whether a group of early investors in Digital World — who were brought into the deal by [deal architect Patrick] Orlando — engaged in improper trading.”
With a six-month deadline looming, there are concerns by executives from both companies that two federal investigations won’t wrap up in time and they will have to refund the money dumped into the company’s early investors.
