Okay, movie buffs, another challenge. The actress Sinead Cusack is in the series “Marcella”, which I’m presently watching. She reminds me strongly of a male actor of about the same age, who I can’t recall the name of. I don’t know if he’s from the UK or is American. He almost always plays dramatic roles, usually as the father or the older friend, etc.
Any help?

I could see Sean Penn as bearing some resemblance. I’m not sure if that’s who Chefguy is thinking of, though, given the “usually as the father or older friend” stipulation:
Is there a chance that when you say “of about the same age,” that you’re thinking of roles played when about the age she is now?
What I’m suggesting is that you could be thinking of her father, Cyril Cusack, who appeared in dozens of movies–almost always dramatic roles, and not infrequently as the “father or the older friend.” Two roles a lot of people have seen him in: as the older mentor of the hero in *Fahrenheit 451 *(he was 56) and as the gunsmith in The Day of the Jackal (he was 63). He did look a lot like her.
There’s an actor that immediately comes to mind, but I can’t remember his name. The eyes and the wrinkles around the eyes are the key feature that looks similar. The actor reminds me of Michael Moriarity but he’s not the one. I hope the name I’m looking for comes to me. He’s a character actor of roughly the same age.
That’s the guy! Never would have guessed his name, and I couldn’t remember what I’d seen him in recently. And he’s American, which is why my search of British actors came up with zilch.
