Have you ever seen comedian Pablo Francisco’s act? He has a great bit revolving around a terrific impression of the movie trailer narrator.
>>“Check out reviews for spoken-word recordings of books…”
… and they’ll often compare the narrator to Frank Muller.
I’ve listened to books and genres I have NO interest in, just because of his delivery. His voice varies depending on the tone of the book, but it’s always spot on.
Or it was.
From <http://bitchen.com/muller/>:
In November 2001 Frank Muller sustained a serious brain injury in a motorcycle accident, which may render him unable to continue his career. A benefit was organized, featuring readings by Stephen King, Pat Conroy, John Grisham, and Peter Straub as well as recordings of Frank’s interpretations of those authors’ works. Donations are still needed (see web site).
The web site has a 10/03 update from his brother Leo:
“… It still appears that Frank will need long-term, full-time care, although we have not ruled out the possibility of recovery beyond that stage. The likelihood of Frank returning to his career as a narrator of recorded books, however, is very small. Frank’s eyesight has a long way to go, and his speech patterns, although improving, are still quite limited. Moreover, the cognitive presence and ability that would be required to perform the complex skills required for narration at Frank’s previous level appear to be well out of reach”.
